Poll: Hillary Trails Generic Republican

Pollster Scott Rasmussen has some good news for conservatives who fear "Clinton III: The Return of Hillary."
Only 39 percent of voters would choose her for president in 2008, while 46 percent would back any Republican who runs against her, according to a Rasmussen survey conducted from December 3 5.
While polls against any generic candidate typically change when the candidate is named, polling below 40 pefcent is not a good omen for Hillary.
Indeed, her favorable rating barely edges her unfavorable by a margin of 45 to 42 percent - despite in the fact that she has earned decent marks as a Senator and is trying to move to the center on issues like immigration and national security.
The fact that 87 percent of voters already have an opinion about her is perhaps the most telling factor.
Rasmussen has bad news for John Kerry as well.
The same poll indicates that 42 percent of Democrats would like to nominate Hillary in 2008, compared to a mere 16 percent who'd like to give the Massachusetts liberal a second chance. 51 percent of Democrats believe that they need a centrist candidate in 2008.

McCain can't afford to run. If he won, he wouldn't have face time on the newsie/Sunday talk programs. He's as vain as Bill Clinton when it comes to getting his face on TV.
Plus, he is too much of a loose cannon to be President.
[Actually, I hate to say it, but if Hillary won, she would strive to be a better-than-average President. She would want to distance herself from 1992-2000 and create her own legacy to overshadow the failed legacy of her other half.]

If the "unnamed Republican" turned out to be John McCain, this conservative Republican would vote for Hildabeast....then I suppose you supported George McGovern over Richard Nixon?

The conventional wisdom is that the "unnamed candidate" has no negatives and thus enjoys a much higher approval rating than a real person with real positions. A lot of us here do not agree with 100% of President Bush's policies, but the vast majority of FReepers preferred him over John Kerry.
That being said, we are WAY too early to make any kind of predictions about the 2008 elections!

If McVain gets the nomination in'08, I think I would just stay home and start working on finding somewhere to hide for Hitlery's term.

She would want to distance herself from 1992-2000 and create her own legacy to overshadow the failed legacy of her other half....and, if Hildabitch wins, we'll have a universal ID (a tiny chip placed in the palm of our hand) so that the government can keep track of us. Then, watch for strange signs in the heavens; great earthquakes will occur, volcanoes, hurricanes, tornadoes, tidal waves and other natural phenomena; super-resistant viruses and plagues will wipe out most of the earth, followed by a great battle somewhere in the Middle East.

----If the "unnamed Republican" turned out to be John McCain, this conservative Republican would vote for Hildabeast.---- No "conservative Republican" will vote for the Hildabeast and continue to BE a conservative Republican. But if you must do so in '08, don't forget to nicely ask the poll workers for your testicles back upon exiting the voting booth.

Exactly. I am convinced that Thatcher is her #1 role model, and she will be pulling her plays from Thatcher's book. Part of that is realizing that she needs to be "strong" on defense and border security to counter concerns about having a female President.
London Times, July 2003: Hillary told the London Times that she regularly watches old videotape of Lady Margaret Thatcher for inspiration.
Living History: (p. 238) Hillary mentions "former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, whose career I had followed with great interest."
Hillary also admitted on television in the early 1990s that she dyed her hair blonde based upon advice from Thatcher's biography.
