Costco policy bans guns!
OFCC Action Alert (email alert) | 12/14/04 | KimRife

Posted on 12/14/2004 9:18:33 AM PST by KimRife

Saw enough "Costco" Topics here, figured there would be some interest: Received this from Chad Baus of OFCC yesterday:

The following was sent to OFCC - writer isn't a CCW-Talker, but said I could post this sans his name:

Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 13:27:56 -0500 Subject: Costco To: info@ofcc.net

Hello,

Costco as a CPZ yesterday. I also e-mailed them to find out why. I am forwarding their response.

Thanks, XXXXXXX

It would be GREAT if anyone in a state OTHER THAN Ohio, would stop by the Costco nearest you next time you are in the area. See if they have a sign. If yes OR no post it here, or e-mail me at:kkacer@catlover.com with the address sate and your zip code (I can find the store zip that way and makes it easier for you).

And if anyone would care to let Costco know what you think: Member Services: 800-774-2678

Web address: http://www.costco.com

Costco's corporate mailing address is: PO Box 34331 Seattle, WA 98124

Costco's corporate offices are located at: 999 Lake Drive Issaquah, WA 98027

Have at.

In God's country where I live, only the state can regulate guns. A private property owner can make a policy against guns, but they can't make it a crime to violate their policy.

Trespassing is a crime. Entering private property wthout the permission of the owner is trespassing. Violating the private property owner's wishes is entry without permission, which is trespassing, which is a crime, end of discussion.

Businesses that have signs out saying something like "Concealed Handgun Licensee's Welcome" will likely have ZERO problems with armed robbery.

As a Costco Employee, I'd just as soon NOT see anyone bringing a gun into my warehouse. I am ALL for gun rights, but why in the world would you feel a need to bring a firearm into a Costco building?

What do you think will happen if I bring my concealed defensive firearm into your warehouse?

Will you accept liability if I am robbed or otherwise assaulted in your warehouse or in its parking lot, or if my firearm is stolen from my vehicle while parked in your parking lot?

Why do I "feel a need?" Gee, I don't know, why do you "feel a need" to have fire extinguishers on various pillars inside the warehouse? It's not like there's ever been a fire, right?

"Don't be stupid--airports are one place they (mostly) do the gun ban thing right."

Just curious as to why you feel a ban is "right" on a plane, but not on a bus, or a Costco ?

Is it simply the amount of people that could possibly be put in danger ?

Are you saying that if we were to poll 100 gun-carrying customers in the area where these signs have been posted at the stores, that not a single one would say they no longer carry a gun inside? I'd suspect that at least 90 of them would say they've complied with store policy or that they no longer shop there.

You forgot to poll the criminals. How many of them give a rat's a$$ about a stink'in sign?

So now this no longer has anything to do with rights or gun-grabbing Nazis, but rather with the fact that they're not doing a good enough job of enforcing the policy you claimed to hate? That's one heck of a shift in position.

I haven't shifted position. I'm against stupidity. What's the point of banning guns to protect people if, in fact, the policy actually harms people? Your thinking is classic liberalism--results are the opposite of intentions. Why should I give up the opportunity to save money on product purchases simply because some idiot wants to expose me to gun violence, all the while he is thinking his Big Brotherism is protecting me?

Costco didn't. You are confusing the donations of a few to include all of us. Yes, someone who is CEO is a raging Democrat, but lots of us are more conservative than he is liberal... we just don't have that kind of money to donate.

"only the state can regulate guns. A private property owner can make a policy against guns, but they can't make it a crime to violate their policy."

So the state can regulate guns, but they can't allow private property owners to designate their property as off-limits to guns, and then provide for enforcement of that under the law? So, in your view, the only way for this to work is for the state to provide precise GPS coordinates for zones specifically disallowing firearms in laws? Gee, that's going to make for a long legislative session...

"As I've stated previously, even if I violated a law, I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6."

This level of paranoia must really do a number on a person's bloodpressure. To think that the moment a gun is not available that death will instantly occur has to be something diagnosable and treatable.

"Yeah, well if that bulge they grab is not my gun they'll have bigger problems than worrying about losing cutomers because of a stupid sign."

I doubt they'd be dumb enough to grab anything. What they'd likely do is stop you, ask you if you're carrying a concealed weapon, and then, based on your answer, possibly escort you off the property.

I think I get it now.

You think your behavior (carrying when the sign says no) is an act of civil disobedience. It's not. It's an act of selfish petulance.

Shop someplace else, why doncha?

I worked my way through college as one of those guards. Thank you for the gratuitous slam at those who work for a living; it really helps make your case..

I post a fact, and you take offense? Maybe you weren't one of the 3 blind mice, but the ones I see at our local store are.

You know, there's really not that much difference between you and the loony leftists who "accidentally" start fires that burn up SUV dealerships and new construction homes in "environmentally sensitive" areas.

Is the 2nd amendment worth a little civil disobedience? Why is only the left allowed to demonstrate that? You know that when these eco-nazis are nabbed (if ever) they are treated as celebrities and get barely a wrist slap. Let a right-winger stand up for what he believes and he's the reincarnation of Hitler.

These gun banning policies are stupid. Period.

Pretty sure the Costco near here doesn't. I don't think you can prohibit CCW holders from carrying, with a sign, like that, in GA.

I really should wean myself from them, but they are really close, and have a great product selection. Love their steaks.

And the sign said everybody welcome,
Come in, kneel down and pray,
And then they passed around a plate,
At the end of it all,
I didn't have a penny to pay,
So I got me a pen and paper,
And I made up my own little sign,
It said 'Thank you Lord for thinking about me,
I'm alive and doin fine.'

Old guy here too.

"I haven't shifted position."

Gun ban bad. Gun grabbers Nazis.
Airport gun ban good. Airport gun grabbers good.

"Your thinking is classic liberalism"

Respect for personal property right - classic liberalism. That's kind of funny, actually. If there's one thing Chairman Mao loved, it was personal property rights. :-)

"Why should I give up the opportunity to save money on product purchases simply because some idiot wants to expose me to gun violence, all the while he is thinking his Big Brotherism is protecting me?"

Because his personal property rights trump your desire to act on the opportunity that's been presented to you under certain conditions.

>>If our store posts such sign I will immediately apply for a concealed carry permit after having procrastinated for far too many months, and enter the store and defy those signs to detect my concealed weapon.

While I generally agree, be careful with that. In some states, doing so opens you up to criminal charges by the state, and not just being asked to leave the premises (the latter being the case here).
