HARRISBURG, Pa. — The state American Civil Liberties Union (search) plans to file a federal lawsuit Tuesday against a Pennsylvania school district that is requiring students to learn about alternatives to the theory of evolution (search).

The ACLU said its lawsuit will be the first to challenge whether public schools should teach "intelligent design," which holds that the universe is so complex that it must have been created by some higher power....

Which of the 6 theories of evolution has "tons of data"?

There are not 6 theories of evolution. Your question is nonsensical.

that evolution is proof of the origin of life without considering that some scientists that theories other than evolution have been suggested?

Evolution mentions nothing about the origin of life. It's ridiculous to say that. Evolution requires life to already exist!!!!!!!! That is part of my issue with Creationists - they keep lying about that. Also, as I have asked multiple times during this thread, name one scientific alternative to evolution. There are none, at this time.

BTW, "these creationists" and "you people" are not personal attacks. Those that I refer to label themselves Creationists.

By no way, shape or form do we "Creationists" want to invade your "public" schools.

You continually seek to inject religious theory into science classes. Continually. It's shameful. Do you want me to give you dozens of examples?

"Hence it is a religion forced upon students"

And a false one at that!

What's with this asserted duality? Why do you assume only Biblical creationism, when there are many other religious stories out there?

Huh? I used Biblical Creationism as an example since it is the one I am most familiar with. Certainly each religion and each believer in ID has their own version.

There are not 6 theories of evolution.

There are at least six theories of creationism.

Everyone notice the join dates on most of these Creationists?

Same old bunch of snake-handlers, back again.

"Evolutionary theory has tons of (scientifically gathered) data to back it up"

You must be speaking of all of the tons of transitional forms in the fossil record that are nowhere to be found.

I did not say the Catholic Church - it had some problems in the middle ages, no one disputes that. I said Christians.
-----
Not to put too fine a point on it, but aren't Catholics Christians? Which particular Christians do you mean that didn't evolve (no pun intended) from the Catholics? Greek Orthodox?

Apology accepted. When you get to know the different FReepers over time, you can generally feel comfortable in giving them the benefit of the doubt. I believe that I didn't give crail enough of that benefit.

What I've observed about the Darwinist/Creationist debate, recently, is that there is much vitriol, and little benefit of the doubt.

Reasonable (with heavy emphasis on the root 'reason') can and do disagree. Biblical academics disagree with each other all the time. Scientific academics disagree with each other all the time. The premise of First Things is radically different for both communities. Is it a surprise that the two communities would find such little common ground?

But, little common ground or not, a little common courtesy will go a long way towards proving that FR is not merely a place for whoever's left standing, but a place where informed dialogue can take place without the disagreeable name-calling that usually seems to go along with it.

My question was the "original" matter creating itself.

I still don't understand how your question relates to evolution.

I wouldn't know a transitonal species fossile if it were sitting on my desk. Please tell me, what---exactly---is a transitional species?

I like your tagline.
Does it mean that invisible magnetic pull is nonexistent?;)

BTW, can you imagine handling snakes with legs? God is good. And has a sense of humor.

"It's nothing more than a Trojan Horse for creationism."

So what if it is? Do not the states (read people) have a right to teach their children their beliefs?

I should have said it was a theory, and by definition hasn't been proven.

There are other theories and it is a matter of opinion, even scientific opinion, whether or not those theories are "scientific."

Let's consider the case of nares: one species Pakicetus has the nares on top of the snout and near the front, the Beluga whale of today has the nares on top of the skull and the transitional species, Aeticiocetus has its nares on top of the snout, but more proximal, near the orbits.

That's one.
