Mr. Lieberman said he would have voted to confirm Judge Bork to the Supreme Court had he been a member of the Senate during the confirmation hearings, according to written minutes of the meeting with Dr. Jack C. Willke, then the NRLC head, and Regina Smith, Connecticut's representative to the group. The notes quoted Mr. Lieberman as saying: "I'm not going to vote against a judicial nominee just because he's pro-life. I'm not going to apply a litmus test."

Even the Democrats think LIEberman sucks (not that their opinion matters, but my point is that everyone except the man himself hates him).

He actually thought Gore would have made a better president. That in of itself ought to eliminate him.

I won't permit him to walk my dog either.
Lieberman would be an horrid choice.

I like former OK governor Frank Keating for the post.

Asa Wimpy Hutchinson might get the nod.

He has been threatening to resign his Undersecretary position because he got passed over last round. He is sending out trial balloons to see how receptive Arkansans are to his running for governor.

The Dems would poison him before losing another Senate seat.

Only good thing would be Gov. of Ct. is a Republican and would appoint his replacement in the Senate. He could be fired any time later couldn't he.

I`m not endorsing, just throwing out something for thought.

What the hell is going on?? We have to go to the Democrats to fill a position? Give me a break. Can you picture a Democrat appointing a Republican to a high post?

The ideal candidate should:

- Have a military or law enforcement background and be seen as a tough guy
- Actually want the job / not be well past retirement age
- Be someone who can be confirmed without causing a ruckus and costing the president political capital
- Have a good reputation among the public
- Have skills in leading a large bureaucracy

It won't be Zell, it won't be Tancredo, and it definitely won't be that sheriff who makes inmates wear pink panties. Lieberman doesn't fit all of those categories either, but I could see Bush asking him simply because there aren't a lot of people left who do. But I think Lieberman who be intensely pressured by his party to stay in the Senate, and I'm not sure he'd take the job.

Tommy Franks is really the only one I can think of other than Kerik who meets those requirements. But whether or not he'd want the job is a mystery to me. He might want to make some real money in the private sector after all those military years.

Nominate Clint Eastwood as Sec. He can do the PR work and make the announcements. Then he can hire Kerik as his 2nd in command to do the heavy lifting.

Does the Secretary have to have his assistant okayed by the Senate?

This is an opportunity to nominate someone who is of Presidential caliber in 2008 (Republican, that is).

I like the idea of someone from a military background like a Tommy Franks, though I don't know much about his politics.
I'm a little concerned about the slate of Republican candidates for 2008:

Jeb would be great, but I fear that's just too many Bushes for the public to be able to elect him.
Cheney is too old and frail.
McCain, well, need I say more.
Frist - not exactly Mr. Charisma.
Anybody else - I'm sure there are some good people, but there's not much name recognition out there (granted, it's early).

Leave Lieberman where he is.

I just don't see President Bush nominating him.

If we're throwing out suggestions, I nominate Frances Townsend. Yes, I know she worked with Reno, but she has been terrific when I've seen her speak and we need a strong personality and Lieberman doesn't possess that quality---Townsend does.

This is my first post.

Hi, everyone!

LIEberman is totally untrustworthy, IMO. He is fairly conservative but seems to be claiming the DEM title only for E Coast votes. He sits on the fence and you need someone who isn't afraid to say what they really think instead of someone who waffles from side to side. How can you be an effective legislator if you don't have a position? I think he's secretly a REP but knows he couldn't get elected in CONN as one.

Since this is my first post, I figure I should introduce myself here: I don't consider myself a REP but am a traditional Conservative in many ways. I'm more of an Independent but don't agree with the LIB idea of virtually no GOV -- I think we need taxes for roads, etc.

Thanks

JT

I just don't think hearing a terrorist altert news announcement with Lieberman and his whiny voice would instill fear in the terrorists.

I just don't see Lieberman being an effective Intel Czar.
