MoveOn to Democratic Party: 'We Own It'

WASHINGTON - Liberal powerhouse MoveOn has a message for the "professional election losers" who run the Democratic Party: "We bought it, we own it, we're going to take it back."

A scathing e-mail from the head of MoveOn's political action committee to the group's supporters on Thursday targets outgoing Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe as a tool of corporate donors who alienated both traditional and progressive Democrats.

"For years, the party has been led by elite Washington insiders who are closer to corporate lobbyists than they are to the Democratic base," said the e-mail from MoveOn PAC's Eli Pariser. "But we can't afford four more years of leadership by a consulting class of professional election losers."

Under McAuliffe's leadership, the message said, the party coddled the same corporate donors that fund Republicans to bring in money at the expense of vision and integrity.

"In the last year, grass-roots contributors like us gave more than $300 million to the Kerry campaign and the DNC, and proved that the party doesn't need corporate cash to be competitive," the message continued. "Now it's our party: we bought it, we own it, and we're going to take it back."

Pariser urged MoveOn supporters to help support a DNC chair with a bold vision to represent Democrats outside Washington. Democrats will vote at their February meeting in Washington on a successor to McAuliffe.

DNC spokesman Jano Cabrera declined to engage in a tit-for-tat with MoveOn, but praised McAuliffe's efforts.

"Call me crazy, but I think the fact that for the first time in party history we outraised the Republicans, and did so primarily through grass-roots fund raising is something to be proud of," Cabrera said.

Among those vying for the party chairmanship is former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, an early darling of MoveOn's cybernetwork of activists when he ran for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Boy. Imagine if Pat Robertson had said that.

The press might find it newsworthy. But since its a lefty saying it, we probably won't hear about it again.

I also think MoveOn ought to be solely in charge of who runs that party and who can belong. I think MoveOn ought to go to those Democrats that want to work with Republicans, be traditional Democrats regarding issues and even vote for folks MoveOn disdains and tell those people they aren't welcome any more. They ought to just tell them to, "Get out!"

Move-on is a legal creation that is prohibited from working with the national parties. I can see Democrats working to eliminate these organizations.

Hey -- I welcome them to take the leadership and the helm of the Democratic PArty.

(1) they would be so abrasive they would turn off voters.
(2) they would actually run on their core beliefs so they would turn away voters.
(3) they would put forward so many shallow and/or unattractive candidates that they would turn away voters.

Go for it MOVEON.

Does anyone imagine that this message was not Soros-approved?

> "For years, the party has been led by elite Washington
> insiders who are closer to corporate lobbyists than
> they are to the Democratic base," ...

So they want to replace one set of supposed fat cat
special interests with another one (Soros).

We need more popcorn. This will be an extended show.

This will be popcorn-with-extra-butter viewing---watching the finagling as Hillary tries to move the party to the center while MoveOn is pulling it in the 'progressive' (aka socialist) direction.

Hillary knows she can't win the WH if the Party is too 'progressive'.

Message to the Democratic Party:

You built the monsters, now you have to live with them.

I knew this was going to happen. When they encouraged this whacko base to grow, they were not going to be able to control them eventually. When activists started marching to San Fran to get an illegal license in an election year it should have been a warning siren. Too bad the DNC heads were incapable of advance thought.

Interesting thought about CFR. While on principle I disagree with the law as being constitutional, the enpowerment of Moveon.org and these other Leftists groups would not have happened otherwise. The DNC would have continued to be their bread line with allegiance owed solely to them.
