Another great film for the whole family. It deals with the search for freedom, a child escaping from the Communist bloc. BUT, it's not being released throughout the nation...just 14 states last I checked.
I'm thinking this would be a fine subject for a movie.
Don't ya hate it when, in the middle of a movie, some actor or actress appears that you swear you've seen recently...but can't place....the actor that played Peter was just such an occurance. The nose gave him away! Maybe I'm getting old. :)
The film had a few humorous parts...but the main character, a boy about the age of 14 or so, was terrifically portrayed.
Very refreshing movie.
Damn the Hollywood elite! Anyone wanting to distribute a quality movie always has to fight an uphill battle.
It is here in cleveland area.. hope to see it first week...
I love movies.. and always nice to see good ones.
Recent ones I enjoyed: Finding Neverland; The Notebook; Sideways; Polar Express; Th Incredibls; and I even liked Alexander!!!!
anixous to read all of thread & links tonight..
Thank you ma'am!
He was one of history's worst mass murderers. What's mysterious about that?
In his own perverted and retarded mind, Asner thinks Stalin is a mystery because he cannot undertand why the Soviet ParaState veered away from the "benevolent" Leninist one.
Actually the bloodletting under Ilyich/Lenin was in many ways worse than under Stalin...no Lenin...no Stalin
Always great to get a review from you...on anything...let us know how the film is.
Her first novel. I would love to read it, but for some reason, I've had a hard time reading books for about the last ten years.
It looks like it would make a fascinating movie.
I hope it comes to my area.
I agree, "Bobby Jones" was a good film. Well made period piece with a plot. A shame it didn't do better financially. Jim Caviezel even had a few minutes to plug it on Hannity & Colmes.
Not only did he portray him, but he was excellent. I have the movie on videotape from all those years ago (1992). Great musical score, too.
Nothing to do with elitism, just business. "I Am David" is the proverbial small film with little to "open" it (name star, topical theme, etc.), so the producers (Walden Media) want to avoid losing money by opening in a lower-cost limited release and hoping it picks up critical or word-of-mouth buzz which would build box office. I hope Freepers will help here by seeing it wherever it is showing locally. "San Berdoo" is about a two hour drive for me, so unfortunately I may have to pass if it doesn't get a venue any closer.
Matt Damon is a liberal fruitcake from Cambridge, MA. Don't kid yourself.. see where his politcal donations went this past year!
This is a more political film. And it might be more difficult to 'bury' such. I don't remember the Bobby Jones film being promoted here or on various other sites or 'blogs' that conservative movie-goers might read.
Or because there's a "conspiracy involved". And that's why it is "what it is".
You know, it's just possible - slightly possible - that defenders of ole Joe and present-day degenerage liberalism would take offense at the very premise of such a film and not give it a fair review. Don't you remember various reviews of The Passion - even by those who never saw the film? See it for yourself. Maybe it's not a good movie. But this is one where you might not be able to trust the critics (assuming you really ever can).

I LOVE Caviezel !
No Damon should only be allowed to learn his lines and entertain by acting.
Today I made the 42 mile pilgrimage to the only theater in California that shows the movie. I was accompanied by my wife and my 15 years old daughter.
The theater was only about 15% full. Not surprising. Had I not been reading through my dose of FR this morning, I would not have known about it either.
In my opinion, this was the second best movie of the year (the first one being The Passion). No fancy special effects, no huge battle scenes, no nudity, not even much blood. Just the story of a boy, the victim of the most inhumane ideology in history, Communism, searching for freedom and finding his mother, but even more importantly, finding that the world is actually full of good people.
Now, I admit, we are biased, as we are originally from Bulgaria, the location of the prison camp in the movie. In addition, my wife's family had suffered a great deal from the Communists. One of her uncles lost his sanity in the exact same prison camp from which the boy escapes. That uncle committed suicide shortly after he was released after two years in that hellish place.
I highly recommend the movie to everyone above 12. All three of use enjoyed it immensely. We were all weeping at the end. That includes me, a 37 year-old "tough" man.
