OK Gang, What is, in your opinion, the finest version of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol"? It can be a TV, Movie, or animated version.
I frankly liked the "Diva Christmas" with Vanessa Williams playing a Diana Ross - like diva. Marley for her was a former partner obviosly modeled after Florence Ballard.
The English version with Alstair Sim has always been my favorite. Maybe because of my age. Sim's transformation is the most dramatic of all the Scrooge actors IMO.
I love the Bill Murray version "Scrooged."
Muppet Christmas Carol
There will never be one better IMHO!
If you want another Christmas gem, try to get your hands on A Child's Christmas in Wales with Denholm Elliot
It's not the "finest", but I have many fond memories of the Mr. Magoo Christmas Carol.
Snappy tunes, too. Heh...
I like Patrick Stewart's one man version myself.
"I can't get these antlers to stay on the mice."
"Have you tried staples?"
Cracks me up every time.
I prefer the 1951 version with Alastair Sim - crappy effects, but a classic B&W. The worst are any of Disney's distortions.
The Muppet version. Fun for the whole family, catchy songs, Gonzo the Great as Charles Dickens...
I like the musical one with Albert Finney because of the annoying songs that go on forever and ever "I like life, life likes me..I like life cause I like to pee.. yah ha ha yo ho ho..a bottle of rum and a big fat toe" or "Thank ya very much..thank ya very much...that`s the nicest thing that anyone has ever done for me blah blah blah" THe strange thing about this movie was they use to have an extended version where scrooge went to hell (I`m not kidding) and for some reason they cut it. I guess there was enough of a portrayal of hell with the music.
I just asked the experts, ( my girls), The best version is the Flintstones one.
I like the print adaptation by Charles Dickens
Mr. Magoo. 'some woofle-jelly cake and razzle-berry dressing'
The TV version with George C. Scott.
And I have the Rankin and Bass cartoon, too.
It's actually kind of good.
Uses the songs from my very favorite musical of the story - "The Stingiest Man in Town".
By the way, if anyone here knows where I can get the LP of the recording made in the 50s, please FReepmail me!
I always liked the one with George C. Scott as Scrooge.
Second choice, A Muppet Christmas Carol!
