The Alastair Sim version if you want the straight version. And Albert Finney's Scrooge for a musical version.

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol rocks! Great songs, too.

Ditto that!
I just bought the remastered DVD and they even have a colorized version on the same DVD. I haven't seen the colorized version so I can't tell you what it looks like.

The Scott version is poor because his transformation is inexplicable. All through every stage of the night, he rationalizes his actions. Then suddenly he converts.
Not credible.
Unlike THE version (Alistair Sim, of course).

Uh, I'd have to say the best version was the original...

The Reginald Owen one from the late 30's isn't broadcast much anymore, but it was the one shown in the early days of TV, and it had June Lockhart as a child, and Richard Greene as Scrooge's nephew, he was a big star in the 30's and 40's and did the TV series Robin Hood in 1955.

It was good.
It will be on the USA network on Monday the 6th. And NBC is rerunning it on Christmas Eve so you may get a chance to see it.

IIRC there is an audio version read by the author, the famous/infamous Dylan Thomas (of Do Not Go Gentle). That is absolutly wonderful -- Thomas had a great speaking voice.

Caine is by far the best actor of the lot. He absolutely rocks as Scrooge. You can just imagine how much fun he had doing it. For some reason, I also liked Henry Winkler as Scrooge. I haven't seen that version in a long time though.

If you want a really powerful rendition of that song, The Gaither's version and Michael English's solo will move your spirit.
To: Maigret
You will not be disappointed with it. I actually heard one of the songs from that album on a compilation Christmas disc and then knew I had to have the full album.

I'm not doing anything Monday night.
Thanks for the tip.
I will try to give it a look!

Alstair Sim first, The Muppet Christmas Carol second.
When you get right down to it, The Christmas Carol blew me away the first time I heard it after finding God and His forgiveness..."let those who have ears hear."
Merry Christmas, everyone! :o)
