HOUSTON -- Firefighters are on the scene of a huge explosion and fire near Fondren and South Main in Southwest Houston.
Residents reported feeling at least two explosion from miles away just before 6 p.m.
It appears to be some kind of manufacturing plant. It's not clear if there are any injuries.
Exactly.
Harried Hindus
No it was Bush and Haliburton!
Low bid, blame it on the contractor. /sarcasm/
Yeppers I heard the very loud boom and can see the glow. I live at Fondren just south of Westpark
I think that they are called "BULLET TANKS" Definite possibility of propane or budidene!
Yep but with so little zoning in Houston there are lots of things you never what is next door. When I moved in to my house I found out there was a cement factory not far from me.
Fondren and S.Main. isn't that near the medical center, and the old Astordome. I don't recall any manufacturting in that area.
Nope about 20 miles away. It is in Southwest Houston. Med Center is South of downtown.
I think that address is inside the loop. Texas City is 50 miles away.
That far, huh. Thanks.
I believe the greater Houston area would be the first area targeted. It is the first large petrochemical center after crossing the Rio Grande.
TV news just reported a 5th explosion at the chemical plant.
And again, FR has national news first.
That's bad. My kids are further away, though.
Houston is massive, about 30 miles across. Med CCenter is in the middle. Explosion is in sw corner.

I thought around 6:10 PM I heard a rumbling and window shaking. I thought it was gunshot or piece of metal dropping.
