Homeless man inherits a piece of the Titanic, puts it up on eBay. Opening Bid only $49,995.00

DALLAS A homeless Dallas man thought he had something special in a plate he inherited from a great-aunt. Apparently, he was right.

The Dallas Morning News reports the Czech factory that made the plate has authenticated it as having been made exclusively for the "Titanic."

Jay Sherman has told the newspaper that his great-aunt was a Titanic survivor.

Now Sherman -- who reportedly has been sleeping under a freeway bridge near downtown Dallas -- is offering the small plate for auction. It's listed on e-Bay with an opening bid of just under 50-thousand dollars.

The giant White Star liner sank in the North Atlantic in 1912 after striking an iceberg on its maiden voyage. About 15-hundred passengers and crew died.

This plate looks utterly bogus. It looks nothing like any piece of china from the Titanic that has been in any of the exhibitions. Additionally, it does not have the White Star Line logo on it anywhere.

"Titanic" is probably just a trade name used by the company that manufactured the plate.

She may have pinched it on the Titanic, but unless it is White Star Line china, it's just another plate backed up with a tall tale from a hobo.

I remember Night Train "fortified wine." Would you like "one way" (one bottle), or the "round trip" (two bottles)?

And I heard the Thunderbird thing differently:

What's the word? Thunderbird.
What's the price? Fifty twice.
Oh so nice!

Interesting. I am into the Titanic. The Titanic sunk in 1912 and left 1,523 dead and 705 survivors.

better solution for urban campers...

He should buy a used winnebago.
Then he should buy the cheapest piece of real estate possible. or a lifetime membership to a campground!
Then he could buy some solar/wind power set-up for his camper
Finally, he should put several thousand into an account that he can only use on tags/taxes.

he could live rent free in hobo paradise for years.

I still want that grilled cheese sandwich with Greta Garbo's face on it.

Yes I want one too. I'm a real do it yourself gal so I have been working on it. All I come up with are Rita Hayworth and and Miriam Hopkins sandwiches. No Greta Garbos yet but I have an excellent Claude Raines. At this rate it will take me forever to complete my sandwich cast.

"Can Jay Sherman actually buy a home for $50,000?"
He can get a nice one for around $80,000 around here. $30,000 down and payments (save 20K to live on). We'll get him a job.

"Interesting. I am into the Titanic..."

One of the 705 survivors was a member of the crew who travelled throughout the world on a lecture circuit, telling of his experience on the night the ship went down. This individual corresponded with my mother, who still has one of his handwritten letters...now, I wonder - at what price should the bidding start?

Or he could move to the Philippines and live like a King for the rest of his natural life...

Well, take yourself someplace nice for a change, ok? It's Friday night and Christmastime, after all.

Don't cheap out.

I thought about bidding, but then I found that they want $15.20 for shipping. It's one of those auctions where they sell the product for cheap and make up for it by overcharging for the shipping.... ;-)

I'm not sure, I switched to Annie Green Springs awhile ago.

LOL, I haven't heard that name in years! Thanks for the flashback!
