DALLAS A homeless Dallas man thought he had something special in a plate he inherited from a great-aunt. Apparently, he was right.
The Dallas Morning News reports the Czech factory that made the plate has authenticated it as having been made exclusively for the "Titanic."
Jay Sherman has told the newspaper that his great-aunt was a Titanic survivor.
Now Sherman -- who reportedly has been sleeping under a freeway bridge near downtown Dallas -- is offering the small plate for auction. It's listed on e-Bay with an opening bid of just under 50-thousand dollars.
The giant White Star liner sank in the North Atlantic in 1912 after striking an iceberg on its maiden voyage. About 15-hundred passengers and crew died.

I would bid, but I don't have any room left on the shelf. Too many Elvis collectibles.

What's the word? Thunderbird. What's the price? A dollar twice...

No bids, this fellow (for a homeless man) sure wants a lot of dough for this item. I wonder how much profit the seller will take as a cut? You can bet they ain't doing it for free.

Brian Wilson is 62. Beach Boys are 43, what's left of them. I was in a traffic jam on the Long Island Distressway 39? years ago [hot, bored, stuck] when the new tune Good Vibrations came over the radio. On first hearing it was nearly miraculous. It was amazing, everybody for miles that was tuned to that station was dancing and smiling all of a sudden, for a couple minutes. One of those moments.

I wish they had which bridge, or a pic of the guy. I used to feed restaurant leftovers to the homeless down in that area. He may owe me a few bucks for meals.... ;>)

The auction listing says it was inspected by Inspector #DTD-12. That's a good selling point, whoever that is.

$50k for a home is reasonable in "fly-over country". Only the Left coast and NE liberal meccas would sneer at that figure.

Can Jay Sherman actually buy a home for $50,000? In Texas, yes. There are houses in Dallas (among other cities) that go for 60-80 thousand dollars. He has emough to put a big downpayment on one of those.
Or he can go the even cheaper route and get a mobile home.

Guy gets 50 grand in his pocket and he will drink himself to death in a week.
Big prize...

No. First thing she did when she walked into her room was admire the plate. Then she put it in her purse to take home as a souvenir. It was already in her purse when she jumped ship.

I was thinking of bidding but the purple grapes would clash with the Spongebob Squarepants tea set and the Dale Earnhardtlimited edition ramikin set.
