A left-wing monopoly on campuses (INTELLECTUAL DIVERSITY? NOT ON CAMPUS)
BOSTON GLOBE.COM ^ | DECEMBER 2, 2004 | JEFF JACOBY

The left-wing takeover of American universities is an old story. As far back as the 1930s, Irving Kristol recalled in "Memoirs of a Trotskyist," City College of New York was so radical that "if there were any Republicans at City -- and there must have been some -- I never met them, or even heard of their existence." Soon the virus had spread to the nation's most elite institutions. In 1951, William F. Buckley Jr. created a sensation with "God and Man at Yale," which documented the socialist and atheist worldview that even then prevailed in the classrooms of the Ivy League institution he had just graduated from.

Today, campus leftism is not merely prevalent. It is radical, aggressive, and deeply intolerant, as another newly-minted graduate of another prominent university -- Ben Shapiro of UCLA -- shows in "Brainwashed," a recent best-seller.

If I had it to do over again, my two children would never get near a frothing liberal university again --- luckily they survived the brainwashing and were intelligent enough to figure out the leftist acadamecians...

Send your kids to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Great academics, town, sports, and it's conservative to the core. Ask Bill Sammon, he was the editor of the school paper when I was there.

Ahhh memories!!!

always got a laugh from the sandals and the beard thing. Once I went to poli science class (20 th century conflict-causes and solutions) in a suit (I had a job interview) and it become a point of discussion for the teacher. Going on about how the need to become part of the system is rewarded and the inevitability of conformity and blah blah blah. I was so young at the time and when I think about now, it was the most ridiculous crap I heard a teacher say.

Like many have said, this is pretty obvious.

What is fascinating is the transformation many graduates make.

When a graduate lands that first good job, the first paycheck initiates the first step to the right.

Then comes marriage. The marriage penalty brings another step. The high taxes on cars and homes doesn't help.

When kids come, the final few steps are taken. The lack of morals espoused by leftist is too much for most people who are holding the most precious gift, a baby. Young parents want their children to grow up in a safe world where people are help accountable for their actions.

I followed this path myself. I was born into a poor family. God blessed me with a little intelligence which helped me get a lot of scholarships to go to college. Conservative in values my whole life, I still voted liberal until I was past my mid 20's. Finally, I got the picture.

Unfortunately, not all graduates follow this, but enough do to stem the leftist tide.

Knowing that marriage and children quickly bring human beings to a sense of responsibility to others and to a commitment to long term values outside of themselves, the Left put its energy and money into getting voices to legitimize and then glorify same sex promiscuity, lack of marriage and the necessary result: lack of children, so that fewer and people would ever grow up enough emotionally or intellectually to give a damn about anything other than self.

Don't worry..there is hope.

I was a right wing conservative student activist..IN THE SIXTIES!

And.. now my daughter who is in college in Pennsylvania..calls me up laughing the day that Kerry conceded the election..LAUGHING..and saying "We bitch-slapped Kerry..Dad"...and rejoicing in the fact that most of her professors were in despair.

She tells the liberal professors what they want to hear..and laughs at them behind their backs..since she has a mind of her own.

..and she is far from alone.
