DISCRIMINATION against gay men, lesbians and bisexuals could be responsible for high levels of mental illness and self-harm, research suggested today.
A study found that attacks and bullying could be linked to the widespread mental disorder that homosexuals appear to suffer.
What disorder?
Hey, I wasn't fat or gay. I just wasn't athletic and I got picked on.
Kids will pick on each other for anything. If being bullied as a kid damaged your psyche nobody would be healthy.
Except that really big kid who started shaving in 2nd grade. Nobody picked on HIM.
Shalom.
If homosexuals are to be protected from the consequences of their actions, then I see no reason that I should not be protected from the consequences of my actions if I start drinking again.
??
I think you're on to something. It isn't the bullies that beat up small effeminate kids that makes them gay. It's the chickenhawks that spot them, swoop in, and coerce them into the "deathstyle" that deserve the thanks for that, but of course that isn't even mentioned.
The citations I posted are, IMHO, related since they discuss mental illness and bullying in homosexuals. That's why I stated "From other sources:" immediately before posting the links.
If you find the information useful, great. If you don't, my apologies for disturbing you.
What do you mean by "born that way?" Do you mean that you could look at a corpse and determine if it was a gay person, like you can the corpse of a black man? I don't buy it. Do you mean that they're wired wrong like an alcoholic? Could be, but that wouldn't justify the behavior. It would just explain the desire.
Bodies aren't homosexual. They're heterosexual. Period.
Shalom.
It's not the bullying itself that gives someone mental illness. It's how you deal with it.
Certainly everyone was a born liar, so why is perjury illegal? Especially about sex. Oh, that's right, it isn't illegal for Presidents. Anyway..."born that way" is possibly unprovable, and irrelvant. Easily provable and obvious is the fact that it is not natural. So even if born that way, it is an aberration of normal human function and should not be encouraged. It is likely an emotional or mental disorder that causes more harm than just sexually transmitted diseases and social stigmas. It encourages people to overlook other destructive symptoms like depression, aggressiveness, substance abuse, etc. so that the person never receives the help they really need.
I didn't mean to leave them out; I was just concentrating on other aspects. Of course the gay community must "recruit."
Homosexuality, like liberalism, is a mental disease.
Many people consider Scientology aberrant behavior as well.
Bingo.
No, it's too ignorant of a position for me to give it a pass. If GWB really doesn't know, he should read up about it, and you too.
Obviously not EACH AND EVERY homosexual person was molested when young, but a large number were, much larger than the population at large or among the heterosexual population specifically. There are a number of environmental factors at work.
Additionally, the fact (ignored and hidden by the MSM) that there are tens of thousands of former homosexuals proves that people can change.
I'm not saying don't "treat" gays. Treat away, if someone seeks help. And I'm not talking about encouraging anything, or making anything illegal. All I said was I don't know what causes it, but was certain it wasn't abuse in every instance.
If this is true, then it looks like Phinneaus Walter Moder is well on the road to gayhood.
That's not saying much...
Ping
Today it seems the homosexual lobby has decided on a new talking point.
They are going to up the "victim" status of homosexuals with repeated documentaries of aids infection, bullying and other hardships to induce sympathy.
The propaganda war starts now for 2006.
So what fronts do we have for the next election:
1. Mass will have voters voting on a referendum regarding protection of marriage.
2. The court cases will have winded their way through the sytem by then.
a) direct attacks on homosexual marrige amendments.
b) demands for defacto marriage via civil unions.
c) immigration visa suits.
d) joint taxation filing suits.
3. Of course the Federal Marraige Amendment will raise its head by then too.
Any other states going to have Marriage Amendments?
Part of the problem, I think, is the expropriation of the word "gay". It used to mean "happy" and "festive"; so there may be a benign-looking lifestyle of acceptance for the otherwise rejected.
When I first found my son dragging up homoerotic images on the computer screen (he left it there, inadvertently), he was a freshman in college, home on vacation. I sat him down and explained to him in no uncertain terms that homosexuality, far from being gay, is full of pitfalls, sadness, despair, doom, disease, and death -- that it is the most cynical and selfish lifestyle out there. He nodded some mute acknowledgment; but proceeded over the 6 intervening years to go off for days at a time.
I now know that he was frequenting gay bars, in a city 4 hours away, when he said he was just being with friends. The other day, he told us he is HIV positive. Why am I not surprised. I tried; my wife tried; but he had way too much reinforcement in the university community -- in the counseling department, in the music department, in the university atmosphere at large, and in the nightlife, much of which is conducive to "it".
It is very sad. Now, the only thing that will prevent my outliving him is the grace of God. You shouldn't outlive your kids, you know.
Am I now more accepting of homosexuality? No; less. I'm actually quite incensed over it. Do I mistreat my son over it? No, I don't think so; but I do tell him that his problem is self-inflicted, even though he disagrees.
