Boeing could produce parts for new plane in Poland.

Posted on 11/29/2004 12:15:12 PM PST by Potomac

US aircraft maker Boeing will begin talks in Poland in December on the possibilities of producing parts here for its new long-range 7E7 model, a company official told Polish news agency PAP.

"Next month we and a number of companies in Poland are going to discuss their role in the production of the Boeing 7E7," the company's vice-president in Europe, Craig Johnstone, said in remarks translated from the Polish.

"In coming months will have to find the machine and parts makers needed for producing the 7E7. We are talking about 10 million working hours," he said, in remarks quoted Sunday.

"The companies that become our suppliers have to be able to begin production at the beginning of next year and furnish high-quality products," he said.

Factories in Mielec, southeast Poland already make doors for the Boeing 757 passenger jet.

A Boeing delegation has also come to Poland to try to sell new planes to the national airline LOT, the agency said.

The 7E7, referred to by Boeing as the "Dreamliner," will fly up to 15,700 kilometres (9,700 miles) without refueling, carrying up to 290 passengers. It will be more environmentally efficent and comfortable in comparison to the planes currently in service. http://www.turkishpress.com/news.asp?ID=34497

Great news for allied Poland. European Airbus would like production in Poland. American Boeing production in Poland however will benefit the Polish economy in many more ways: providing tax benefits, making a better ally of America, increasing competition (even beyond that of Boeing and Airbus), improving productivity which can lead to even greater economic gains over time such as the promise of diversification into other areas of production or activities that such a large, highly diversified multinational company can provide. The collective gains from partnership with Boeing far outweigh the detrimental impacts in terms of productivity losses to Poland and opportunity costs that would be an outcome of the albeit unlikely but proposed American visa waiver program.

A nice way to say "Thank you" to our friends in Poland. They have stood firm in supporting us in Iraq (both policy and boots on the ground). Sounds like a great idea.

Great news for Boeing, too. I've heard reports from homebuilding sources that much of aeronautical craftsmanship from former Soviet satellite countries such as Poland is very high quality.

mmmmm I don't really think that Boeing care about who were in Iraq:

Nov. 10, 2004 -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] has selected Latecoere of Toulouse, France, to provide the passenger doors for its all-new 7E7 Dreamliner airplane. This marks the first time that Boeing has selected a French provider for major airframe structure.

Latecoere joins a growing list of French partners on the 7E7 team. Dassault Systemes is providing the suite of software tools used to develop, manufacture and support the 7E7 for its lifetime. In addition, Snecma Group companies Messier-Dowty, Messier-Bugatti and Labinal are providing main and nose landing gear, wheels and electric braking systems, and wiring respectively. Thales has been selected to provide the electrical power conversion system and the integrated standby flight displays.

"Latecoere has been helping us develop 7E7 technologies for nearly a year," said Mike Bair, vice president and general manager of the 7E7 program. "The company brings great enthusiasm and knowledge to the team with a specialized skill in providing doors."

But it rather wouldn't be a big contract. Probably some simple components.

"I don't really think that Boeing care about who were in Iraq"

You are right.

This is a very important part:

"A Boeing delegation has also come to Poland to try to sell new planes to the national airline LOT, the agency said."

Airplanes produced by Boeing has been used in LOT since many years. Soon LOT should buy a few new airplanes. Both LOT and PZL Mielec are still state owned, so these parts produced in Poland may be a big advantage for Boeing. It's just business.

Not that many years. They flew TU-154s last time I flew on LOT. I have ridden on smaller planes in much worse weather, but the most frightened I have ever been on an aircraft was a LOT TU-154.

Very nice!! I envy the engineers who are building the next generation passenger plane. Hopefully the catalyst that will squash Airbus.

It's just business.

Kinda but nothing is ever 'just business'. Those that support us are more likely to buy American. Boeing also gave some big 7E7 contracts to Japanese companies and ANA is also the prime launch customer (buying the first big batch of the plane). They say such things are not interrelated but everyone knows they are. With a company as big as Boeing there are always political side effects.

They have now only Boeing's and ATR's. I think that all Tupolews were replaced about mid 90's.

Have you ever flown on Aeroflot ?

Yes, also a TU-154 on a 5 hour flight from the middle of Siberia to Moscow. The service was good, the flight uneventful.
