If administrators of Kentucky's Boyd County school district can't find a way to force all students to attend sexual orientation and gender identity "tolerance training," the American Civil Liberties Union is threatening to take them to court again.
Ten months ago, the district settled a lawsuit with the ACLU over the right of a student group, the Gay-Straight Alliance, to meet on campus. The year-long litigation strained relations in the conservative northeast portion of the state. In addition to allowing the group to meet on campus after school, district officials agreed that all students, staff and teachers would be required to receive "tolerance training."

"Parents don't get to say I don't want you to teach evolution or this, that or whatever else. If parents don't like it they can homeschool, they can go to a private school, they can go to a religious school." I'm not sure one could find a better example of taxation without representation.

Heaven forbid if hetrosexuals would mandate a "film" be seen by all students, but if the 'mo's want to do the same thing, the ACLU is in agreement with them, goose-stepping every inch of the way.....

Does it mean that watching Oliver Stone's Alexander the Great is going to become compulsory?

"Parents don't get to say I don't want you to teach evolution or this, that or whatever else."
Why of course not, what do they think we're living in, some sort of free nation?
This is why Bush won, people: If you try to cram an agenda that people don't like down their throats, then they're not going to vote for you. If you haven't figured that out, then you're the idiots, not Bush.

"Students certainly have the right to believe in what they want to believe, but they don't have the right to act out in inappropriate ways. The point is you don't treat people disrespectfully, you don't pick on people, you don't bully them, you don't make them afraid to come to school." So why single out the gays for this training? Aren't the kids taught to respect everyone? If the bullies and harassers aren't already getting this message, then a special program about gays isn't going to make a bit of difference. But I suppose the only point is to make the activists feel like they've 'done something.'

Fortunately the public education system is so bad in most Kentucky counties that even if the kids took the training they would flunk it. ;-)
We have relatives in Lincoln County, and I was stunned at the poor quality of their kid's education. One year the valedictorian of the high school class stood up and read "her" speech.
She neglected to mention that "her" speech was written by a fellow named Rudyard Kipling over a hundred years ago in a poem called "If".
The speech was reviewed by the teachers, and apparently they either had never heard of the poem or did not know who Joe Biden was. ;-)

I normally hate any fed involvement in education, but this is civil rights not education. I suspect our upcoming Congress would pass a law giving parents the right to opt their kids out of any controversial material in schools receiving federal money. It's the kind of bill that shows up in the opposition's commercials when you vote "no". >:)

I'm sure that the good people of Kentucky will be motivated to vote Democratic after getting this shoved down their throats (pardon the analogy).
And they wonder why the South is solidly red.

This can't be legal. Somebody screwed up somewhere. Where was the ACLJ during this legal fiasco?? We have to destroy the ACLU.
