A few days in the life of Barney... (photos)

Wanting to be diplomatic, but cognizant of the date, Barney gently reminds his Jack-O-Lantern friends that the compost pile is in the back.
November 1, 2004

After voicing his vote, Barney welcomes President Bush back to the White House Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004.
November 2, 2004

Moments before holding a dog press conference to announce that a new puppy "Miss Beazley" will be joining him in the White House, Barney takes a sip of water.

Knowing that a new puppy is on the way, Barney practices his "isn't he the cutest thing in the world?" pose.

Although he has improved his vertical leap from 1/8th of an inch to nearly seven feet, Barney concedes that owning a watch would be more convenient.

Although a fan of the Bald Eagle, Barney holds a press conference to discuss the merits of designating him instead as the National Symbol.

With the deadline fast approaching for filming the next Barney Cam, Barney realizes that he hasn't written anything yet, let alone thought about a plot.

In an admittedly lame competition, Barney challenges Tennis Ball to an eyebrow growing contest.

Not pleased with the recent Barney Photo of the Day selections, Barney commandeers a camera and takes his own photo.

NAME: Jamie
LOCATION: Goleta, California

Dear Barney
My 2 German Shepherds wanted me to ask you the following:
How do you do all this amazing stuff when you don't have opposable thumbs?
-- Jamie

Dear Jamie

Thumbs are overrated.

Barney

Although usually composed, Barney is caught sulking when informed that the position of First Dog will still not be elevated to Cabinet level.

Despite this being his fourth such ceremony, Barney entirely misses the point of the annual Turkey Pardoning event.

Not thrilled with the selection of names for the Turkey Pardoning Ceremony, Barney submits a write-in vote.

Although friends with Margaret Spellings, Barney drops his blackberry in disbelief when finding out he was not nominated Secretary of Education.

After spending more than three hours trying to light a match with his mouth, Barney reconsiders his November 12 statement on thumbs.

While looking for his tennis ball, Barney stops in disbelief upon spotting the Lochness Monster in a drainage ditch on the South Lawn.

Although I'm supposedly at the ranch in Crawford, I snuck out this morning and called NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe. He owed me a favor. Saturn is cool.

Barney

Still disappointed about the position of First Dog not being elevated to Cabinet level, Barney begins training to join Cirque de Soleil.

Not wanting to be rude, Barney politely breaks the news that there is no need for a plastic Santa Claus in the next Barney Cam film.

My family took a White House tour 2 weeks ago offered by an old college buddy who works there. He arranged to let my kids and myself actually hold Barney. It was a great experience for all of us. Other tourists were gawking at just being able to see Barney. That dog is a real celeb.

Sorry, no pix are allowed in the White House so I can't actually prove it. But it did happen.

I like that dog. He looks so much like a Scotsman going out for a morning walk. Whiskers, moustache and all he brings with him.

Thanks for the pictures. I too can't wait to see Barney playing alongside Miss Beazley. We have had two consecutive Scotties and they are fantastic pets.

I hope he plays with Miss Beazley. He sort of seems to like ruling the roost...I'm afraid he may get his little doggie nose out of joint if he gets any competition:)
