Spot on article, IMO. I'm joyous over watching cBS & Co slowly go down the dumper. And I'm hoping the others will follow, in due time, when the rest of America finally wakes-up and realizes that they've been lied to for the past 40+ years.

A blogger is "a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas writing what he thinks"?

Who wears pajamas? I thought the uniform of the day was a pair of socks.

Rather has hated the Bush family since before 1972, and has been holding a grudge against them for some unknown reason.

This CBS Thomas refers to, is it some sort of broadcast television news organization? I haven't seen such a thing in over 10 years. It must have all of the appeal of a Star Trek convention.

Seriously, who watches and who among the rest of us cares? The day when these people had serious influence and that influence was growing is long gone. There may be a trace remaining but it is tiny and disappearing fast. And Dumbass Dan is one of the primary reasons.

He (Klein) stereotyped a blogger as "a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas writing what he thinks."

It wasnt in his living room, it was in his bedroom.

he gets it, but not all of it.....When he says "for the once great CBS" he refers to ol'Walter days but the truth is that those days were just as much of a con job as Dan Rather's days.

Walter lied, spun and worked the main stream media into a defeatist anti war, anti military madness. His fith column attack handed us our first defeat and laid the groundwork for 50 years of socialism. With the help of John Kerry and Jane Fonda, Walter influenced the youth of our country and did more to start the decline of the now famous "moral values" than any other so called "newsman".

The only difference between the "once great CBS" and "The irrelevant CBS" is the fact that the POWER OF INFORMATION is no longer their sole property. CBS has always been a liberal bastion...only now others have the means to prove it. VIVA FREEREPUBLIC!

IMO, the timing of Rather's "retirement" announcement has more to do with the contents of the internal investigation at SeeBS than anything else. I believe the contents of the report have been leaked to Dandy Dan and he took the bait to get out while the getting was good before SeeBS management were forced to fire him based on the internal investigation's report.

IOW, Rather, essentially, is being forced out as opposed to retiring at his own will. SeeBS "C's" the handwriting on the wall. Their ratings have continued to plummet and Rather & Co. have helped accelerate that fact. The internal investigation will do nothing for Rather's cause.

If there is justice in the world, Rather should be taking Mapes with him. For all we know, Mapes is still "working" on the phony Bush/Guard story. After more than 5 years on this non-story, one would think that is there were any "there" there, it would have been discovered.

For all of their efforts, the best they could do was try to smear a sitting president with forged documents besmirching his honorable service to the nation versus any serious investigation of John Kerry's "heroic" (gag, barf) service.

Since this is what passes for "news" these days in the MSM, is it any wonder that so many of us prefer to get our news from cyberspace and just let these talking bobblehead dolls talk to themselves?

The only good thing about Rather was the entertaintment he provide at the 68 Democrat Convention when he was punched in the gut by one of mayor daily's goons

Dan Rather lost me as a viewer in 1972.

During the Dem Convention of 1972, Dan was a cub floor reporter. During the Convention, which then ran gavel to gavel on TV, cubbie Dan was all over the floor. Every so often he made it to the microphone to report to the anchors (I don't remember who they were).

Dan was breathless, reporting on rumors. Dan was trying so hard to be the first to break news. Dan would run back and forth from delegate groups and caucuses to the mic to report to the anchor desk.

This went on for 3 days. Dan was so want to break the news that Edward M. Kennedy had decided to run. But, to Dan's chagrin, Kennedy refused to announce. Little ole cub reporter Dan's runs back and forth and must have logged 500 miles on his feet. But, no Kennedy announcement. No BREAKING news for Dan to announce.

At the end of the Convention, Dan's disappointment at failing to get the Kennedy announces story showed on Dan's haggard face. Even then, Dan was trying to 'make', not just 'report', the news. He failed then, 1972 Democrat Convention, just like he failed trying to 'make' news with the faked fax documents in 2004.

Yeah, so would a lot of us. However, I think there is a better chance of Elvis being found alive than that ever happening.

More's the pity!

Don't forget the "What's the frequency, Kenneth?" episode. Great laughs.

Before Peter Jennings became the anchor at ABC there was a black man who filled the spot. He died at an early age. Anyone remember his name?

It didn't have to be this way for Dan Rather or for the once great CBS.

Richard Nixon was a once great president.
Dam Rather and CBS were never great.

"Klein called Mapes "absolutely peerless . . . in the profession. She is a crack journalist."
