I lost an old friend today. No, she didn't die. She screamed at me for my many-year metmorphisis from rad-liberal to conservative. She doesn't understand why I have changed, and is unable to listen because she is filled with bile, anger and hate. She wishes Bush evil and hates US policy. She has turned into a Michal Moore robot.
We have not been close friends for many years but I did enjoy keeping in touch. Because of our thirty year history I have treated the friendship gingerly but with great fondness.
Politics is hell.
I too have difficulty with my siblings, cousins and uncle with respect to our differing political views........
I happened to go home to Boston to visit my ailing mother during the week of the elections (I voted early) and was there during Kerry's concession speech on the 3rd of November. I WAS AT FANUIEL HALL IN DOWNTOWN DURING KERRY'S CONCESSION SPEECH. I quietly listened and watched the Kerry supporters AND was within 15 feet of Kerry as he shook hands along the cordon after the speech. I politely called to Kerry: "Good fight, John!" and a Kerry supporter dove-tailed: "Yeah, way to fight, John!" When it was over I went to "The Purple Shamrock" and had a celebratory "Guinness". Isn't America GREAT?
My riding instructor is a Kerry lib - well, she can't really help it, she's from a union Dem family from New York. It's all she's heard all her life. Plus, since she's in what you might call a luxury business, the constant preaching from the Dems that the economy is 'bad bad bad' got to her. I keep chipping away at her in a very, very polite way.
I have not gloated or mentioned politics ONCE since the election. That would not be nice.

Im waiting for the liberal to arrive
Out of curiosity, are you older or younger than the leftist?
Hopefully she paid for the call!
No. I called her, overseas. It has been one of my treats to myself. Not anymore though.
Its a woman friend of my wifes...I think we are about the same age...I have been told not to talk politics with her...a bunch of the other folks are on the left as well.
I will sit quietly and try to put on a GW Bush smirk.
It is a cute smirk.
I'm sorry. I know ir hurts as we are going through the same thing. We have been friends with a family for years and always spend holidays, especially Thanksgiving and New Years, together. Our boys have grown up together. Our boys are now 18 and they voted for the first time. The boys followed in their respective parental footsteps. They have always been liberals and we have always been conservatives, but until now we just agreed to disagree. This year the "draft rumors" were too much to weather and our friendship appears to have ended. I am grieving because we have been through so much together. I can't believe this ended it. Clinton didn't end it for us!
bttt
Perfectly said get'emall! That's been our experience as well.
nutmeg & zelig
Clinton didn't end it for us!
I know. There is something about the leftist mind that cannot manage this, I think I am going to reread Sowell's Vision of the Annointed tonght and remind myself that conservatives think leftists are misguided while leftists think conservatives are evil.
Misguided versus evil, see above post.
How can you not like red meat when you love dark women? Have a drumstick tomorrow and come to your senses!
She makes John Kerry look like Herbert Hoover."
Hey Pete -- In that case, I hope the make up and heels helps...
Try being a vegan Republican who dates a black woman. Nobody knows what to do with me.
Well, I am a former vegan Republican with four black children and I dress floaty cotton and aisan looking clothes. I look like a New Age momma. Boy, are THEY surprised when we discuss politics.
Congratulations to this one. What's the former FReeper's screen name?
Hey Pete -- In that case, I hope the make up and heels helps...
I am laughing so hard I am .....well, you know...
Eff 'em. Our side historically buys LOTS more lead and brass "voting pellets" than their side.
I was shockingly, unthinkingly, academically liberal. Being out in the real world was quite the wake-up call.
