Malkin: Hillary Rodham Buchanan?

HILLARY RODHAM BUCHANAN?

By Michelle Malkin   ·   November 22, 2004 11:21 PM

Newsmax recently noticed that Hillary Clinton is starting to play up border security and illegal immigration:

More than any other leader of either political party, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has been focusing on the issue of immigration reform and border security - taking hard-line positions that appeal to frustrated Republicans in a move that could guarantee her enough red state support to win the White House in 2008.

On Wednesday, as the media descended on Little Rock to cover the opening of her husband's presidential library, Sen. Clinton criticized the Bush administration for not using advanced technology to improve border security...

I've often said that the only thing saving the GOP open-borders elite on this issue has been Democratic stupidity. No longer. Hillary is many things--venal, arrogant, authoritarian, ruthless --but she is no dummy. (Did you see where she chose to make her tough-on-borders remarks? FOX News Channel.)

Unlike the Wall Street Journal editorial board, she seems to understand that the overwhelming support among Americans of all backgrounds for stricter immigration enforcement is grounded not in knee-jerk "nativism," but in rational

self-preservation. It isn't just bigots who want secure borders. It's families like the parents and widows who formed 9/11 For A Secure America, many of whom are lifelong Republicans fed up with the pro-amnesty antics of the Bush White House. It's families of victims of illegal immigration, whom both the Beltway and media have ignored.

I myself would never vote for Hillary. But the Republican establishment takes for granted at its peril the significant number of party faithful who may be sorely tempted to do so if the Bush betrayal at the border continues.

Hillary Rodham Buchanan? Don't laugh. She could be the GOP's worst nightmare in '08.

If Malkin thinks Hillary can win in 2008 on the basis of immigration alone, then she's as vacuous as her critics contend. Who ever said she would win on immigration alone? These past few elections have been close. Throw in the usual dem supports that will vote that way no matter what, add the immigration vote she gains and she might have enough to win.

She won't even win the primary. She's a Yankee Senator.

That's already two strikes against her.

Before you laugh too hard ask yourselves a few questions:

1. Could Hitlery carry the same states that confessed war atrocity committer and red-handed traitor Kerry carried?

If you think the answer is an obvious "no" then wake up.

2. Could Hitlery carry a couple southern states Bush won on immigration alone?

If you think you can answer this apart from knowing who she'll be running against then wake up. Its not far-fetched. The Dems can run a bag of rocks and win 40% of vote. All they need is an issue to pick up another 10%. Immigration could be it.

You could be right about that. Plus, there are probably still a lot of folks that won't vote for a woman.

Still, the threat exists for a lib to trick a fraction of the population that they will be tough on immigration. If their candidate could do that, it might put him over the top.

No need to put up strawmen about "alone" but the point of this is that Hillary is looking to exploit an issue that Kerry was too naive to. While no super partisan Republican will vote for this women because of this, this is an absolute BRILLIANT move on her part to chip away. Plus, doing this now, if it gets loud enough it might force Bush to state his policy more clearly than he has been forced to do so far, which will end up alienating--no pun intended--his base further.

Nobody with any sense believes this.

Reality check, 48 million people voted a few weeks ago for a Mass tax and spend liberal who betrayed his fellow veterans in a time of war. I know we won, but lets not get carried away here. I don't think Hillary is going to win either, but you have to admit she is far more charming then Kerry ever was, she has a messiah-like quality for liberal women, and she's far craftier than the guy that got 48 million.

Fact is, this issue you are impuning could put her over the top.

How many times does the President and those around him say that his proposals are NOT AMNESTY?!

The same number of times that John Kerry said that he would not let other countries dictate his foreign policy.

From what I've read,it's like the old Bracero Program - guest worker and with time limits.

You need to keep reading, and develop some critical thinking skills. Here's a start;
When those time "limits" expire, how is interior enforcement handled by this proposal?

What in this plan addresses the anchor babies that even felons will have in 6 years time to "limit" their presence?

Every time we have a guest/amnesty plan, the borders swarm with illegals, just as it happened last Jan, what in this plan would stop those bandwagoners from coming now?

Rich's undeniable truth of life #1: Hillary Rodham Clinton is a lying slag.

3 guys, lots of accounts, running in a pack. Funny, I've seen that mentality on a few other topical threads ;).

It's not crazy. It may be wrong and it may be a bad idea. America may not be America after we go much further down the road but I would encourage you to stop swimming up stream and actually do something that will make a difference.

We should be setting up institutions to help all the 'new' Americans become good citizens. Good Americans. As it is all this whining only allienates them further.

You will not stop this. The market, which our philosophy has turned loose never again to be caged, will demand the labor it needs. Absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Maybe she would have difficulty heading the ticket, but as Colin Powell's VP, she would be well positioned to eventually crown herself Queen.

I think Hillary is the male...

So she will be able to do what a Republican ought to have done but feared to do.

IOW, what Spock said: "Only Nixon could go to China."

OK, now if Hillary will back the abolition of the IRS and the Federal Reserve, along with the repeal of the Brady and Lautenberg Acts, the '86 machine gun ban, the '68 GCA and the '34 NFA, I'll give her a look. Until then, the Dragon Lady can go suck an egg.

She's learned how to triangulate from Bill.

All a democrat has to do in 2008 is make the right noises about -looking out for American workers - we must tighten up the borders - the GOP wants cheap labor-. etc. and they will pick up the necessary support to win.

The probably could have beaten Bush in November if they had nominated Gephart. Glad they were too stupid. They gave the average white blue-collar worker no reason to vote Demo.

you do realise we have amnesty right now?

ANY illegal who has managed to hide in the USA for 10 years and stay out of felony troubles can and DO apply for amnesty. Republicans did force the time up from 6 years after they took over in congress in the 1990's.

We can use this as an opportunity to end this permanent rolling amnesty program. This can be sunset with a "drop dead" date.

I would suggest that we all focus our efforts on making sure the guest worker visas are NONconvertable to any other visa status. No citizenship or permanent residence through the guest worker program. (not unlike the B1/B2 visa waiver program visas.)
