(CBS) Americans do not believe that humans evolved, and the vast majority says that even if they evolved, God guided the process. Just 13 percent say that God was not involved. But most would not substitute the teaching of creationism for the teaching of evolution in public schools.
Support for evolution is more heavily concentrated among those with more education and among those who attend religious services rarely or not at all.
There are also differences between voters who supported Kerry and those who supported Bush: 47 percent of John Kerrys voters think God created humans as they are now, compared with 67 percent of Bush voters

Scientific theory is essentially scientific fact. It is as close to truth as you will ever come. A theory is not just a guess, as is the common meaning. A scientific theory is a systematic explanation of a natural phenomenon, backed by huge amounts of data that all support each other.
If there is ever a substantiated discrepancy, the theory is discarded. In over 150 years, the evidence has accumulated for evolution, pretty much as Darwin originally described it. No one has ever presented one iota of evidence that contradicts evolution, except the creationuts who misrepresent the facts to scam money out of unfortunate
gullible people.
Yes, I run a homeless ministry in the inner city.
God created the circumstances and laws for life to begin and evolve.

Oh I didn't answer your question.
Evolution does not mean that apes become human. It means that apes and humans come from a common ancestor from which they diverge. You can look at the DNA and see the similarities. The closer the DNA the closer the time of divergence.
We have the same basic DNA as a banana. So, you might say that we came from bananas (it would be wrong, but you might say it). It is just as ridiculous to say that apes turned into men as bananas. Although, our wives might say both are true.
After Nam, I ran a big farm, then worked for USDA once, but most of the time I did not directly use biology anymore.
Not really sure you wanna get in this one. The Poofists are crowing loudly that they've suckered the majority of respondants; probably best to let 'em get it out of their system.
"If fifty million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing."

Sure it does.....it is a false religion and you're up to your neck in it.
Professor Patterson of the British Museum....said spontaneous generation was impossible, yet he believed it anyway because Creation meant responsiblity to God....
Perhaps there has been evolution of some species. If so, it was part of God's plan.
--"Why do we need to temper our scientific theories simply because some people might feel that observed reality contradicts their religious beliefs?"
Perhaps because you would want exactly the same in reverse:
re-read: "Why do we need to temper our religious beliefs simply because some people might feel that observed reality contradicts their scientific theories?
Imagine a group of teachers following that logic.....
Logically there IS a connection. Denying a connection exists because you don't want evolution to be true is quaint, but hardly an intellectual exercise.
There were many different systems of evidence that pointed to how living things diverge from common ancestors back to the start of life. DNA was a culminating system of evidence that supported all the prior systems.
Evolution does not contradict the Bible. Don't be scared to examine truth. It will tell you a lot more about God that you need to know.
