9 indicted on vote fraud charges (Brooks County, Texas)

Improprieties alleged in last May's election.

A Brooks County grand jury handed up nine new indictments this week in connection with voting fraud allegations during the May city election.

The grand jury on Thursday indicted the following people on an illegal voting charge: Gilbert Andrade Jr, 22; Ruben Mejia, 51; Joshua Mata, 19; Dawn Gonzalez, 34; Armando Gonzalez, 28; Victor Garza Jr., 29; and Robert Davis, 26.

The grand jury also issued two superceding indictments on an illegal voting charge for Roel Mireles, 44, and Vanessa Kiser, 44. The superceding indictments were presented based on information submitted after the first round of indictments in September. Kiser and Mireles were indicted in September on charges that they voted during the primary, runoff or city election, or all three, when they were not eligible, District Attorney Joe Frank Garza said.

Illegal voting is a third-degree felony, punishable by two to 10 years in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Bond has been set for each of the defendants at $1,000. Brooks County Jail authorities said the defendants had not been taken into custody.

Garza said the defendants allegedly voted when they were ineligible to vote because of probation status.

Requests to speak with Mata at home were declined. Mejia, Andrade, Davis, Mireles, Dawn Gonzalez and Victor Garza could not be reached for comment. Armando Gonzalez could not be reached at his home. Kiser, who could not be reached late Friday, has said that she did not know that she was not permitted to vote.

In September, a grand jury issued five felony indictments and one misdemeanor indictment in connection with the city election. The felony charges included bribery, illegal voting and unlawful delivery of a voting certificate. One woman was indicted on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful assistance for allegedly preparing a voter's ballot without his or her assistance. The cases are pending.

The May 15 city election is also the focus of an election contest filed in district court.

In June, Juan Martinez Jr., the Falfurrias city councilman who lost his council seat to Celia Jaime during an election recount, challenged the election results in the 79th State District Court.

Martinez alleges in legal documents that "numerous co-conspirators" obtained votes by bringing cars full of people to the polls and instructing the voters to cast their ballots for particular candidates. The case is pending.

I hope there's a intensive investigation into this election and that thousands of fraudulent voters - we know there are - are prosecuted - and LOUDLY - to get the message out that "You can go to jail, buddy"

hopefully that would prevent most people from putting their neck on the line - at least make them think twice

I have a hunch that if we can cut down on the fraudulent votes, along with the MSM being brought to ground (preferably 6' under) - that we will find that there are not nearly as many liberal Rats as it appears.

10 to 1? Hell no.

I'll do 50 to 1 if you want. You've got to give me some fair odds if you want any takers, man.

Hmmm...

I'm actually helping to push for a "recount of Ohio". It can only help us, right (bru-ha-ha-ha-ha).

I know how things work in Cleveland, just like here in Chicago. Vote early, vote often, let the kids vote, let your cat vote, let the dead vote...

This kind of stuff could be the 'snowball rolling downhill' on election reform and helping to deter voter fraud country-wide.

Way to go, Texas.

Come on home state PA, let's shut down 'Fast' Eddie Rendell's Philly operation. First we need our weenie senators, Santorum and Spectre to grow some cahones.

I won't hold my breath.

It has got to do with the money these offices pay to risk 10 years in jail and a 10,000 fine.I bet they make $600.00 dollars a year.

Boy! This is great! Can't wait for the indictments to come rolling out of Chicago now! So cool! I'm sure the administration is doing everything in it's power to encourage local authoriities to prosecute vote fraud.

Next the truth about flight 800 will be released and then I'm sure they will open the secred JFK assination files and finally the alien caft at area 51 will be revealed to the world.

May Texas hang'em all! If any of them were voting Republican, too bad. We've got to get the fear of God back into criminals...everywhere....a few hangings and would-be perps start to think twice. If we let our hired servants/elected public officials at all levels let crook buddies off the hook, we hurt our whole society....

And Carter surrenders his Nobel Peace prize, saying in a humble voice, "I don't deserve it. You give it to Ronald Reagan posthumously for winning the Cold War without a shot."

And the Chinese Commies tell Taiwan to be independent if they want.

And the European continent forms a Swiss-style confederation instead of a bureaucrat heaven.

What would happen if local DAs agreed to split the fines with bounty hunters/lawyers? What if they did that in LA country, or Chicago?

What if the option might be encouraged by a bill in the US Congress?
