EXELAND, Wis. - Five people are dead and three injured in a shooting incident that apparently began over a hunting dispute in western Wisconsin.
The confrontation began around noon in a rural area southwestern Sawyer County. Authorities said a hunting party returning to their deer shack reported seeing a hunter unknown to them occupying their tree stand. That led to a shooting.
One of the shooting victims used a walkie talkie to radio back to the deer shack for help. When the victim's hunting partners came to the scene, they were also shot.
Sawyer County was in a virtual lockdown as authorities searched for the gunman. One suspect was eventually taken into custody around 5:15 p.m.
The suspect's name has not been released.
Officials at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake said they have treated at least three gunshot victims. They said one of the victims was transported to a hospital in Marshfield, WI. Another victim is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery. The third victim is in fair condition in the intensive care unit.
And the ol' racecard is being played. Vang claims he was walking away, heard ethnic slurs, turned around and saw one pointing a gun his way (I don't remember if he claims they shot one round off) and that's when he fired back.
Doesn't passthe smell test already. He chased these folks around and gunned them down.
Unfortunately for him you don't get to shoot people over ethnic slurs. The only reason this might go to trial is that Wisconsin doesn't have a death penalty to plea bargain away.
Actually, I think that was a part of several Democrat 'hate crimes' bills ... Being 'offended' is equivalent to being 'assaulted' in many parts of the liberal world.
Jeffery Dahmer got the death penality in Wisconsin....Just not by the state.
Suspect says hunters provoked him; Vang says he was surrounded, called names and shot at

Something interesting about one of the victims in the Wisconsin massacre

per Dr Snide:
It's not the same guy. Why are you recklessly dragging the name of a dead man through the mud. The Robert Crotteau who robbed a bank is 26 years old now, the Robert Crotteau who was killed in cold blood by a trespassing animal was 42 years of age. Is it that hard to compare ages? Crotteau is a VERY common name in that area so do your research better before pinning this on some racist, rural, redneck sterotype which is unlikely to be true.

Thank you, Sir.
Hmongs are the Vietnamese who fought for the south during the Vietnam war, then came over here in droves. They are well known to be poachers. We have a problem with Hmong poachers in my area, though I have met some nice fellas who abide by the fishing regs.
The news said there have been problems between Southeast Asians and Whites in that area (in the context of his cry of "racism"). The news is saying the men (all dead and not able to defend themselves) used racial slurs. Even if they did, it is no excuse to murder (not "kill") 6 human beings.
>I got three deer this season, no humans. The group I hunt with are all too damn good to dare fire on one another, aside from having no reason to in the first place.>
I hope you are eating them. The hunters around here have bad aim. I was worried about my uncle when he went out this fall because he doesn't wear a vest. I am very glad hunting season is over. Someone shot our tame yard deer and another guy's cow got shot. But the deer my uncle got sure is good eating. He tried to get me to help him load it
into another vehicle to take it to the butcher, but I refused. Something about blood dripping on me gives me the heebie-jeebies. Guess it's a girl thing.
>The eyewitness accounts that are being broadcast are that a party were hunting on private land. This fellow showed up and wanted to hunt there this morning, and they told him it was private land and that he was not welcome to hunt there.>
The media is turning it into a racial issue, trying to say the white men were racists. They apparantly take the killer's side and don't bother to relay the victim's side.
DARE WE CALL THIS A HATE CRIME? If the roles were reversed, wouldn't it be called such?
Most of it's in the freezer now, waiting to be consumed. If you wouldn't help load it onto a truck, I guess asking you to help gut'em or skin'em is out of the question! ;)
>We abandoned them to the North Vietnamese when we left causing the deaths of thousands. The ones who are here are the survivors and their families, who our government felt guilty about. Why they settled in the Northern states is a mystery to me. There are many in Green Bay, too.>
They are all over California too, and they keep coming. A while back, liberals were trying to figure out a sensitive way to spin their marriage habits. If you can break into her parents house and kidnap her, you can marry her. Liberals are also trying to teach them to not poach, which is having little effect on them and a devastating effect on our fish and wildlife.
>The Hmmong tribespeople had about 1/10th of their population obliterated by the Communists after the US withdrew. They were loyal American allies. I think many took refugee in the United States. The NYT had an article a while back that claimed they voted democratic. I don't believe it.>
They didn't help us, we helped them. They do vote democrat and have the highest welfare recipient rate in the country. Unassimilated Hmongs are not like Americans. "Asian" poaching and gang activity is mainly Hmongs. Some among them do such things as round up outdoor pets and stray dogs and cats and eat them. I do not want any more waves of Hmongs coming to California, unless they are Christianized and accept American laws and social norms.
>No offense, but the Hmong are here because they're refugees. They fought along side of us in Vietnam. This is much different from some random Mexican who swam the Rio to get here.>
The war has been over a long time and we can't take in every Tom Dick and Harry who has had a war on their soil the last 50 years. I don't like multiculturalism and prefer my neighbors and countrymen be Christians who are assimilated into the culture and customs.
>Nice to see everybody jumped on his racial identity here.>
It's cultural, not racial. Live amongst them and you will understand. If he were Russian, people would jump on his "culture" as well, and Russians are white.
What I am trying to do is review what limited information has come out and keep it in the sunlight. The CLAMs are trying very hard to spin this into the 8 victims being the actual perps. That is sick. I think it is going to take a lot of pressure to keep the CLAMs honest when reporting on this case.
Joe, I well understand what you are saying. It's not a "racial" issue, it's a cultural one. If Serbians or Swiss folk were doing this, there would be the same reaction, but it isn't a part of their culture.
Everything you said hits home and I should add a few things. As an angler in a small community, I am well aware of their disproportionate poaching activities. Bear poaching, cougar poaching, deer poaching and fish poaching. Look in the hunting guide directory and you'll see many Hmong names as guides. About 1/4th.
I don't want to discriminate, but this spring in one fishing area, there were 11 able-bodied young Hmong men who fished every single day, all day (according to the ranger) and into the night. They drove new cars. I wondered how they made a living. Fact is, Hmongs get busted all the time for poaching and selling game fish and animals, sometimes for "medicinal" purposes and so forth. I met a few and they seemed decent enough, but when 11 grown men spend every waking hour on my fishing spot for 3 months straight and drive brand new cars, I get a little suspicious.
In Southern California, the cops broke up a ring of cat smugglers. They were taking people's cats off the street in LA, skinning them, and selling teddy bears with cat fur at the San Diego Swap Meet. In San Francisco, they had to ban catching a certain type of mussel because of Hmong poaching, and around here, our ponds are nearly barren because they come at night with illegal nets and clean out the fish.
Environmentalists and animal rights activists are still silent.
Why?
They do vote democrat and have the highest welfare recipient rate in the country.
---
Do you happen to have a link to their rate of welfare recipiency?
I have done research on the effects of Welfare on various populations and would be interested in any firm statistics on this.
