HUNTER GOES BERZERK IN WISCONSIN; AT LEAST FIVE DEAD
Drudge Report ^

Posted on 11/21/2004 4:15:12 PM PST by Jotmo

EXELAND, Wis. - Five people are dead and three injured in a shooting incident that apparently began over a hunting dispute in western Wisconsin.

The confrontation began around noon in a rural area southwestern Sawyer County. Authorities said a hunting party returning to their deer shack reported seeing a hunter unknown to them occupying their tree stand. That led to a shooting.

One of the shooting victims used a walkie talkie to radio back to the deer shack for help. When the victim's hunting partners came to the scene, they were also shot.

Sawyer County was in a virtual lockdown as authorities searched for the gunman. One suspect was eventually taken into custody around 5:15 p.m.

The suspect's name has not been released.

Officials at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake said they have treated at least three gunshot victims. They said one of the victims was transported to a hospital in Marshfield, WI. Another victim is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery. The third victim is in fair condition in the intensive care unit.

From The Most Dangerous Game, by Richard Connell

The general smiled the quiet smile of one who has faced an obstacle and surmounted it with success. "I had to invent a new animal to hunt," he said.

"A new animal? You're joking." "Not at all," said the general. "I never joke about hunting. I needed a new animal. I found one. So I bought this island built this house, and here I do my hunting. The island is perfect for my purposes--there are jungles with a maze of traits in them, hills, swamps--"

"But the animal, General Zaroff?"

"Oh," said the general, "it supplies me with the most exciting hunting in the world. No other hunting compares with it for an instant. Every day I hunt, and I never grow bored now, for I have a quarry with which I can match my wits."

Rainsford's bewilderment showed in his face.

"I wanted the ideal animal to hunt," explained the general. "So I said, `What are the attributes of an ideal quarry?' And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason."'

"But no animal can reason," objected Rainsford.

"My dear fellow," said the general, "there is one that can."

"But you can't mean--" gasped Rainsford.

"And why not?"

"I can't believe you are serious, General Zaroff. This is a grisly joke."

"Why should I not be serious? I am speaking of hunting."

"Hunting? Great Guns, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder."

The general laughed with entire good nature. He regarded Rainsford quizzically. "I refuse to believe that so modern and civilized a young man as you seem to harbor romantic ideas about the value of human life.

You guys held your composure remarkably well.

Prudence and tact were needed, as well as a lot of teeth grinding! I am sorry for the blot I placed on your thread. My actions were also out of line.

"CIA & SOG taught him to do it right in Laos"

Yeah, 1-4 y/os learn real good.

" CIA & SOG taught him to do it right in Laos"

He sucks. He ambushed folks that were treating him fairly and w/o threats. Only one in the group was armed to respond and no one expected this kind of heinous behavior.

WHere's you pick up your morals, Uncle binnies school of jihad?

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed.

and exactly what does what Thomas Jefferson said have to do with the slaughter of (Now 6) innocent people. You remind me a lot of gloriapoole. She also posted irrelavant quotes to back up her mindless ramblings.

Notice, I speak of her in the past tense.

Your comments are very inappropriate and out of place. In your case "independence of mind" resembles psychotic.

Staying alive rule #1: Don't argue over a tree stand with an armed man who is hostile.

When I took my hunter's safety course almost fifty years ago, the instructors several times cautioned the class about running across armed strangers hunting in the woods.

We were advised, for example, that if you're approaching the carcass of an animal you shot, and a stranger suddenly emerges from the brush to say it's his kill, you don't argue with him--you just say, OK, and get out of there.

Just heard over the radio. Vang was with two other hunters who the authorities are still trying to locate.
