Despite settlement, Web site cites God
In a six-page letter made public Wednesday, the American Civil Liberties Union says a state program promoting sexual abstinence has violated a 2002 court settlement by invoking the name of God and quoting biblical passages on the program's taxpayer-funded Web site.
If changes aren't made to the site in 30 days, the ACLU said it will have no choice but to take the Governor's Program on Abstinence back into federal court. Meanwhile, the site, AbstinenceEdu.com, remained up and running, telling teens, among other things, that God is standing beside them as they choose abstinence and offering personal testimonials, including one from a girl who said

I think that since the ACLU is federally funded with our tax dollars, that tax paying Christians should have the option of telling the ACLU what they can and cannot do or say. Then we can have the GOP run Gov't to drop the ACLU from the list of Federally funded organizations because of their biases against a large segment of the tax paying public.

I knew that! I may be old but I'm not dumb. It was a joke. Get it? You're zip code reads to be June 15, 1954. I was REALLY born on June 12, 1898.
See post #26.
Why haven't we thrown the UN and ACLU out of our country yet? We can't rely on our troops for everything. If we don't start cleaning our house, it will get overrun with rats soon. They just keep chipping away at our foundation.
Anti-American CommuNazis Loving Union at it again. I hope they are branded as a terrorist organization like Al-Qaeda, FARC, PLO, and all those radical environmentalists.
I guess so. You have out-lived a lot of people. I read the obits. Any day after fifty is just gravy. Sleep tight.
Message to Al Quida:
For your next target, might I recommend the ACLU Headquarters building? There is a whole pile of Godless Infidels hanging out in there.
Who is funding these ACLU barbarians?
I think they are privately funded by members.
The poster in reply #22 seems to think they are tax payer funded.
I think the Christian right is quite powerful as it is. But, I do agree, the ACLU needs to be stopped. I think they are an arm of evil and actually hurt civil liberties by insisting on the removal of moral barriers.
The American Civil Liberties Union has threatened to sue the state of Louisiana because a state website promoting abstinence mentions God.
In a six-page letter, the ACLU claims the state abstinence program has violated a 2002 court settlement by invoking the name of God and quoting biblical passages on the program's taxpayer-funded website, reported the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
The legal group says it will take the Governor's Program on Abstinence back to federal court in 30 days if religious references are not removed from the site. Even so, the site, AbstinenceEdu.com, continues to mention God, with one personal testimony from a girl who said she thanked God after she chose not to have sex.
"We've been monitoring the website for a while," Joe Cook, the executive director of the Louisiana ACLU, told the New Orleans paper. "We thoroughly researched it, and we made the determination that the GPA had not only failed to correct the errors of its ways, as pointed out two years ago in the settlement, but in fact had gone out of its way to use taxpayer money to layer religious content upon religious content."
A spokesperson for Gov. Kathleen Blanco's office, Roderick Hawkins, said the website was being reviewed.
"Our concern is that the site comply with the agreement and the settlement of 2002," Hawkins told the paper. "That's what we're doing right now making sure the site complies."
On the site's message board, one teenager poster mentioned God in her testimony:
"Virginity is something very special which we have been given by God and we can only have it once. When you give it to someone It'll be gone and you can never get it back no matter how rich you are. I'm so thankful to God for being with me and giving me the wise choice to abstain. I'm 15 and so proud to be a virgin and I won't be sorry for that. I think one day my future husband'll be very happy for the decision which I made and he'll respect, trust me and feel secure with me."
AbstinenceEdu.com and the governor's program is financed with federal money.
For anyone living in LA, if you happen to run into Joe Cook and he sneezes - DO NOT SAY "GOD BLESS YOU". Just ignore him, perhaps he'll "get the message".

You know there are these Ten Commandment monuments everywhere. And theyre probably 10,000 monuments or plaques that are in public buildings or public parks around the country. Theres a pot of gold sitting under each one, which the ACLU is going after.
There is a court law passed during Watergate era that allows them to collect attorneys fees for these cases for these Ten Commandment and pledge cases, and because theyre claiming they have a civil right not to see the Ten Commandments, a civil right not to hear the word God in the pledge of allegiance.
