The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Connect these dots, now
Full Story
"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

>>Any significant landmarks near the town?<<

I don't know the area.

I was going to google search for nuclear power plants and such, but have to run and do "mom stuff" now.

It is only a matter of time until he meets the US Military and trades in his crummy sandals for a nice boot.

The type of boot Toby Keith type sings about I would hope!

"Authorities: pilot in crash near Smyrna ran out of gas"

Interesting juxtaposition with the town named after the Turkish city.

Nashville is only 20 miles from Smyrna, there's the airport at Nashville, the Grand Old Opry too.

Not to mention Oak Ridge National Lab, and the TVA in the vicinity.

Does the word "Smyrna" itself ring any bells?

Glock pistols are manufactured in Smyrna, Georgia.

"How close is Murfsboro (sp?) to Smyrna?"

They are neighboring towns. Murfreesboro is just SE of Smyrna.

They are right next to each other. Where Smyrna ends is the beginning of the Murfreesboro city limits. Smyrna is about 30 minutes southeast of downtown Nashville and Murfreesboro is about 45 minutes away. The Metropolitan Nashville area has grown so much in the last decade that there is very little delineation - it all just kind of flows into each other.

As far as significant landmarks go ... that immediate vicinity is mainly rural, with some historic civil war battle sites (Stones River, Battle of Murfreesboro). Although there is a large dam (Percy Priest) located only about 10 to 12 miles from there, "as the crow flies." This would be my biggest concern by far.

As I said, downtown Nashville is only 30 minutes away (driving time - only a few minutes by air). Being the state capital, it is a decent-sized city with a diverse number of businesses, industry and financial institutions. As everyone knows, we are also known as "Music City USA" -- there are literally hundreds of recording studios, publishing companies, record labels, etc. etc.

I will report back later this evening after our local news. Hopefully more details will be forthcoming.

The word "smyrna" means myrrh an anointing oil and spice used to prepare the dead for burial. Perfumed myrrh was used for embalming. In this way myrrh is very symbolic of death.

Many of you know (hey my 'puter seems to be working! Will it last?) that I'm a teacher in south Florida in an inner city high school MANY of my kids are Haitian and have regular contact with relatives still on the island. I asked recently and a LOT of the kids are confirming that the CHINESE seem to be having a significant presence in Haiti and it AIN'T part of any UN mission! I wonder if TPTB are aware of this? Maybe somebody can slip somebody a note out of school? What might be the effect of Chi-Com military bases on Haitian soil? They already control both ends of the Panama Canal. What happens if there is a confrontation over Taiwan? Questions, questions.

Oak Ridge is actually a "suburb" almost due west of Knoxville. Although, when you are talking about distance by air from where this happened this morning, it is not terribly far -- 165 miles away. But I think there are other facilities closer. This whole area (middle and southeast TN) has several TVA dams, with Percy Priest dam being only 10 to 12 miles from where this guy crashed his plane.

Also, at the stadium in Smyrna some of the earliest Christian martyrs were persecuted.

There is a Aviation Army National guard base in Smyrna. We have held a couple of SAS ladies shoots there. We had to check in with the quards and show ID's. They have barracks and lots of military stuff there. While standing on the gun range you can watch the military jets coming and going. I can not remember the name of the base. Let me check around and get the name.

The first local news was just on. They reported that the plane ran out of gas, and that the pilot refused to tell them his flight plan or destination. He did not have his pilot's license with him, and the pilot's log book was not on board either.

They said initial indications are that Darnell is supposed to be on some type of medication that he had failed to take. He is being held on $20,000 bail. I will see what the other stations report at 5pm.

Good remembering about the air base. If I recall correctly, it actually closed military operations there back in the 70s (although I may be wrong about this), but the airport is still used (obviously). I attended air shows there when I was younger.
