MSNBC: Santorum Stabs Us In The Back...AGAIN! Rick "Rounding Up" Judiciary Chair Votes For Specter!
GrassrootsPA ^ | 11/17/04 | GrassrootsPA

First he single-handedly cost Toomey the race, and now this!

If this report is correct, Rick Santorum has a LOT of explaining to do...

MSNBC:

Although a staunch foe of abortion and same-sex marriage, Santorum helped Specter win re-election this year and according to Specter, has been rounding up support for him as Judiciary chairman.

"Sen. Santorum has been enormously helpful," said Specter Tuesday. "He's gone above and beyond the call of duty. My number one priority in the next two years is to reelect Sen. Santorum."

For conservative voters who may dominate in the 2008 GOP primaries, one doubts that this would really be an appealing campaign slogan: "Rick Santorum: The man who brought you Arlen Specter."

As one who has corresponded with Specter's office since 1986 I totally agree. I'll say it again, Lott and Santorum by his right side blocked a real Impeachment trial. Specter wanted a real one but was blocked.
Think about that one.

Frustrating................

Welcome to the "big tent" gop of 2004.

Don't worry, they'll turn rightward temporarily in time for the 2006 mid-terms..............

However, we do have to begin holding Republican politicians accountable for the decisions they make and voting them out of office if necessary.

Absolutely!

But I draw the line at causing a dem to replace them.

I have actually read comments that say a dem would teach them a lesson, yadda, yadda.

I prefer to be a bit more realistic. LOL!

As to the question if Specter would be better in or out, I really cannot say.

His historical voting patterns say............only maybe, or maybe not.

I think his Senate buddies will keep him in line,(I sincerely hope they do) as the voter's will not get another chance.

This is probably his last term, but he wants a decent legacy. Not a blemished career over one issue.

Look everybody calm down! You know that Santorum is a stand up guy.

No, sadly we don't know that. Regardless of his voting record, Senator Santorum is personally responsible for getting a pro-abortion social leftist elected instead of a solid pro-life conservative and he may now be responsible for ensuring that a unified Republican government will be unable to get conservatives into the judiciary. This error could harm our republic far more than the good provided by any single voting record. The Senator would do well to remember that he will never be supported by the left and any political future he may have will come from the right. Conservative voters have long memories, often too long, and these voters will not soon forget these betrayals. Furthermore, a failure of the Republicans in the senate to deliver on their party's ideals during this time of united government they were given could marginalize the rank and file's support of the party for a generation.

He's not responsible for Specter getting elected. If anything, he's responsible for Specter getting the Republican nomination, because he's politically astute enough to know that Toomey couldn't win a statewide election in Pennsylvania.

We keep voting the same Republicans back into office.

Well guess what, we don't really have much of a choice do we.

"Would it be irrational to at least lay out the pros and cons of all this? Is there NO chance that Santorum is making a calculated move in the pursuit of goals we share?"

I have heard Santorum speak, and trust his passion for life. I don't understand his actions, especially in the primary. Now that Specter is back, I have to trust that Santorum knows what he is doing, and acting in good faith.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong.

Santorum is not a back stabber in my opinion. He has been an excellent Senator

The way I look at it is, if Specter is confirmed, he is Santorum's responsibility. Anything which he does wrong will be justly held against Santorum.

Toomey wasn't any more conservative than Santorum so your assertion is disproven. The same cowardly statement's like this were also used by RINO's against our President while he pursued the nomination. In the last 30 years conservative nominees have done better than liberal ones and most Republicans have now learned that there are more votes to loose on the right than can be gained on the left. RINO's are happily a dying breed.

Give me a freaking break. Santorum would be a complete idiot to try and keep the Senior Senator from his state out of a committee post.

Get your head out of your behind and wake up. Is your end goal simply to get rid of Specter or get good judges? Which is it? The wrong one could be very costly.

[Anyone with an (R) after his name can win in PA.]

No problem. The rabid Santorum haters could import Alan Keyes to run in the Keystone State against Santorum. After all, the Keystone State is so "rignt wing" that Keyes just might slightly improve his IL Senate performance.

BTW Pat Toomey endorsed Arlen Specter for the general election and will endorse Santorum for re-election in 2006. I guess Toomey must be a RINO! LOL!

Some of our brilliant conservatives believe Toomey would have had 200,000 more votes than Bush did in PA. by running to the right of him.And we all know that if Santorum would become even more conservative he will get a 100,000 more votes in Philly for sure.

I have confirmation with the reporter that Santorum was mentioned in that context:
