OMAHA A 23-year-old Omaha Marine died while fighting in Iraq, the same day he became a father, family members said Tuesday.
Shane Kielion's son was born at about 10 a.m. Monday and Kielion died just hours later, said his aunt Karma Matthews.
Matthews said Kielion never found out he had become a dad.
Kielion, who was on his second tour in Iraq, graduated from Omaha South High School in 1999 and married his high school sweetheart, April, the mother of his new baby.
His former teachers and coaches said he was the quarterback of the football team and a role model.
Football coach Jay Ball said when Kielion came to visit in August, he bragged about his soon-to-be family.
"He was excited about his baby on the way and he always told me how beautiful his wife was," Ball told KM3 News in Omaha.
Ball said Kielion's memory will still be there to inspire his new son.
The family was not immediately giving interviews about Kielion's death.
Prayers for his soul and for his family.
Thanks.

Prayers heaven bound for this extraordinary young man. May he be an inspiration to generations to come and especially to his son.
Makes me wonder if he 'died' like the Iraqi 'died' in the mosque? Makes it sound like he wasn't killed.
I guess I'm just tired of MSM and their word games.
Prayers for him and family.
God rest his soul, how sad for his family.
I am just really sad and have been for a couple of days. What teh Blue Staters in the Media are doing to this Marine has me so angry. Foprgive me for concluding, that the Blue Staters (not the Bush voters in those states) are terribly unpatriotic and dangerous. They just hate this Country in a very profound way and they seem to have a lot of power, and they don't care how many marines will die because of their Fifth Column actions.
I am angry at the Blue States. I hate their values and their worldview. I hate that they cheer every time an American hero falls in battle-- their first reaction is: how can we use this against Bush. Please Blues States become part of Canada-- drag Canada deeper in the sh*t, let the Red State Americans save civilization.
This is the worst part about military family life. Such a sad day for them.
I pray that God comforts his family. RIP.
/salute
I understand your anger faithincowboys. As a Montanan transplant, imagine how I feel living in the nearest suburb of a city that had a 75% Kerry victory. Seeing the Blue media rip apart this Marine and our war effort in general has me feeling incredibly frustrated and without anywhere but here to turn.
Just don't forget that there are many people in states like Oregon, Washington, and California who see the world as you do.
It is terrible. He never met his son. It is terrible that the son's birthday will always be a day of great tragedy.
And did the man who killed him pick up his gun in response to Keven Sites' reporting? We don't know, but it's possible. What betrayal. What vermin!! How can they betray such heroes?
Oh, I know there are many good people in Blue Stes, unfortunately they don't have a voice. They are shouted down and shut out. I know you feel like prisoners, we feel like we have been mugged and betrayed by your Leftwing, anti-American neighbors everyday. Can't they be on our side for five damn seconds?
Did he hesitate so he wouldn't get nailed on international media? Have ROEs changed in the wake of Sites' betrayal? Did the insurgent scumbag who killed him pick up a weapon to "avenge" the death of the bastard in the mosque? We don't know, the fact that we are burdened with these questions is unforgivable. Kevin Sites, GE and the entire Leftwing media have blood on their hands.
God Bless his family! Especially bless his wife and comfort her in this time.
I join you this request.
Damn....The price of freedom is heavy....May that child always hear how great a man his father was. May the Lord bless this fallen soldier and his house.
My most heartfelt sympathies.
that is a very sad story.
It doesn't get much sadder than this. Most certainly, prayers for him and his family.
Lord, please help this family.
I wonder... if there is a soldier in a hospital bed right now, badly wounded or maimed, his comrades dead, all because, for a split second, he contemplated a wounded terrorist's geneva rights a millisecond before the terrorist detonated the bombs strapped to him under his clothes.
Or if another solider in that hospital paused half a second too long, because he knew in his heart he and his buddies had nothing but the best of intentions for the Iraqi people, and didn't want their hundreds of days spent training Iraqi police, or giving gifts to Iraqi children, or rebuilding city bridges, to be dwarfed by global accusations speculating the 3 seconds he spent face to face with a dying terrorist... 4 seconds before the terrorist lobbed a final grenade as his last gift before dying.
Sadly, I think stories like that are probably all too frequent.
