You raise a relevant question - I too wondered if the victim was Pakistani. For some reason, self-immolation, and also killing others by fire, is more common in south Asia. It is also found sometimes with Kurds, Afghans and Iranians, although it is possible among Arabs, it is not much reported.

There was a similar case in Australia, a Pakistani man burnt himself to death outside Parliament House. A dreadful event, witnessed by a group of visiting schoolchildren! The reason, was he was not allowed to bring his family to Australia. He must have gone insane, that is all I can say. What a terrible death.

None of them seem surprised, in fact most seem to have been expecting someone to burn themselves in front of the White House. Very strange that they would think this is normal or even acceptable behavior. Imagine what a loon you would have to be if this is the sort of thing that inspires you?

Honestly, an objective observer, (someone with no dog in this fight) is going to shake his head in wonder at actions like this one. They are the actions of someone who has lost all will to live.

I wonder if this is going to become a regular event as DU'ers and Terrorist nut bags line up to torch themselves in front of the White House? I guess it might be time to mount a water cannon in front of all government buildings. Either that or build a fireproof pit for them to torch themselves in.

Muslims make fun of us because we don't want to die. I guess it is only fair that we make fun of them for wanting to die.

He obviously never had any intention of doing himself any real harm. Sadly, he's one of those jokers who's prank didn't go horribly wrong.

At least he didn't set himself on fire at Ground Zero. I have even less sympathy for the guy who blew out his single functional brain cell on hallowed ground on one site of the worst attack in US history than I do for the mornic-looking, aging hippy using alcohol to light his hand on fire outside the White House, but still wish he's used something more combustible to make his little statement.
