"I thought that we are surrounding them.. It looks like we are just attacking from the north (or are those our camps?)"

From what I understand....we already control the South...so what they'll do is start sweeping (herding) to the West driving the terrorists toward the river where they have no avenue of escape....

2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division

Official Homepage

Infantry Division -- the 2d Strike Brigade -- is the Army’s only Light/Heavy Brigade, with two Air Assault Battalions (1-503rd AA & 1-506th AA).

2nd Brigade Combat Team (Strike Force) acts as deterrence of North Korean aggression against the Republic of Korea (ROK).

A DOD briefing on May 17, 2004 confirmed that elements of the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division would be deploying to Iraq as part of OIF 3. The deployment will be for one year and will effect roughly 3,600 soldiers.

By mid-July 2004 the large-scale movement of equipment from the 2nd Infantry Division area to ports in southern South Korea was underway. There it was being packed onto ships and sent to the Middle East. Some 3,600-3,762 2nd Brigade soldiers were to deploy to Iraq by early August and meet up with their equipment once they get in theater.

The US Army announced on September 23, 2004, that the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division would relocate to Fort carson upon completion of the deployment to Iraq as part of the Operation Iraqi Freedom 2 rotation. Upon completion of their deployment in the July-August 2005 timframe, the unit will relocate to Fort Carson, but dependents were expected to begin relocating to the facility prior to that date.

The way I'm reading it is the terrorists have no direction to go but into the river.
At that time I expect it to run red with terrorist blood like the Nile river did in The 10 commandments.

If I understand correctly we are driving from the west, while blocking the north and south as possible escape routes.

Dolly don't worry, there is a squeeze play being done to the terrorists. The map doesn't show the total forces or ongoing operations that are being employed at Fallujah.

Thanks.. need to look at map again.. I didn't know it was near Fallujah.. I Knew it cut thru Baghdad.

Strange isn't it that most of us 3 years ago had little/know understanding of the geography of much of the Mideast .. well, perhaps some of you did. I just knew it was the "cradle of civilization & home of Baghdad (which I first heard of when I watched TV show I Dream of Jeannie!!!!)

I think I will scream if I hear even a whisper of a pause/cease fire to discuss "matters".. we need to finish the job. There are more vermin in Iraq & many more in Syria, Iran, SA etc. This being wiped out in strong fashion will send the message we have not yet done. Much like in VN when we were NEVER truly able to finish the job correctly. Glad this president lets the military leaders run this war.

" Hershey also points to the wisdom of holding off in April. The distinction between then and now is the present use of Iraqi troops and police, in Fallujah and elsewhere. These forces didn't wash in April. They were not ready, and, as Hershey wrote, they were not ready to pledge themselves to the Bremer regime. Now they are fighting for themselves with experience, prestige, and pride, applying the training and tools we have given them. "

YUP - Thanks for weighing in on this.

3 years ago I wanted to Nuke entire nations for the sins of the few who made it to the news.
Now I realize most of that news is jaded, spun, and full of half truths or no truths.
This greatly complicated my armchair battle plans.

The terrorists have recently killed many of the Iraqi police/army colleagues and friends.. they have a new sense of vitality with those images & memories, I believe. And yes, they are better trained at this point.
