WASHINGTON -- In 2000, Americans were reminded that electoral votes select presidents. In 2004, Democrats were reminded that Bruce Springsteen does not. Other Nov. 2 epiphanies include:
In 1984, Walter Mondale's running mate was Rep. Geraldine Ferraro, a Catholic woman from New York. Ronald Reagan carried Catholics, women, New York -- and even Ferraro's district. Vice presidential nominees rarely sway this or that national demographic group. However, a running mate should help carry his or her state. But last week Bush carried North Carolina, getting 295,026 more votes than in 2000, and carried John Edwards' home county, as he did four years ago. Edwards was supposed to cut Bush's appeal in rural America. He did not.
While 44 percent of Hispanics, America's largest and fastest-growing minority, voted for Bush, African-Americans continued to marginalize themselves, again voting nearly unanimously (88 percent) for the Democratic nominee. In coming years, while Hispanics are conducting a highly advantageous political auction for their support, African-Americans evidently will continue being taken for granted by Democrats.
On election night, news organizations were very hesitant to call a winner in Ohio, where Bush led all night and won by 136,483 votes. They were less hesitant about calling Pennsylvania, where Kerry led all night and won by only 127,927 votes.
I wasn't aware of that comment by Moyers. I knew he was an a-hole, but until now I didn't know he was stick-stone stupid.
Don't forget to add Micheal Moore to that list.
And thank you Howard Dean for your mental melt down,
and thank you Clark for you contributions and showing America why you were removed as commander in Bosnia,
and thank you John Edwards for that excellent short movie about vanity, and thank you Woopie Goldberg for the excelent display of elite hollywood and showing just how vulgar and out of touch with BRAINS you really are...
There are so many other left wing nutters I'd like to thank, but the server can't handle the load.
In the meantime the Left keeps on indulging in illusions of an America that never was and never will be.
Amen!
I'll just thank God!
I am so glad that Bruce Springsteen was in charge of the Kerry campaign's GOTV.
Amen !!!
Last Tuesday, we began pushing back. The Susan Sarandon crowd believe that this is, simply, THEIR country.
It's not. But neither is it "our" country. It's a system, and all sides can participate in and shape that system. The Al Frankens thought they could jsut spout their grabage and there was nothing that could be done about it.
Now they're terrified. Because they see the cornerstone of their philosophy, abortion, could be endangered. The problem with most liberals is their thinking has no dimension BEYOND "abortion on demand". It's been said that abortions went down under Clinton; I have no idea if this is true or not, and it wouldn't move me an inch if it were true, because this society is so much more than who is in the WHite House. But the Libs live in their little bubble of libs and celebs and think that as long as they control the seats of power, they can dictate how this country is shaped.
The reason they're so scared is because all of their powers--persuasion, comfortable speaking in front of cameras, entertainment, money, money and more money--are nothing against people who do not like some directions this country is heading in. And the libs believed those people were powerless.
Wrong.
In the voting booth, you, me, and all those Hollywood stars have exactly the same amount of power, and that is the ONLY place where significant choices are made--not in Hollywood offices, or on stages.
They're scared because they blasted us and W with everything they had, thinking it would stop us from voting out of hopelessness. It didn't work. They are up late nights now, thinking "But all of this power I have is...meaningless when it comes down to where it MUST be of use."
Simply put, the Hollywood elites and Libs treat the American population like we're fools, easily duped by the glitter those folks find so enticing. And the "fools" just did the unthinkable--we thought for ourselves.
That terrifies them. Because they don't respect us. They feel like zookeepers, keeping all these stupid animals penned up and laughing at our helplessness...and they're just starting to grasp that we knew how to open the cages all along.
Bill Moyers? Isn't he that dorky guy on PBS who plays the piano and makes totally lame jokes?
Darkwolf!! Great writing. Keep it up. I'm going to copy and keep that. I am always trying to impress on others the enormity of the forces that were arrayed against Pres. Bush and his conservative base. You put it well. Thanks.
Pres. Bush should thank himself for putting together a good administration capable of handling one of America's crises. He should thank himself for having the courage to ignore the media and their talking heads and doing the right thing despite their vicious attacks. He should thank himself for holding on to the essentials of his vision of America in the midst of the corruptive politics of Washington.
It was the policies of George W. Bush that brought majority support to the polls.
Thank Phil Burress, president of Citizens for Community Values in Cincinnati, who led efforts to place the Marriage Protection Amendment on the Ohio ballot...which evidence indicates won the state for Bush.
If I knew that I'd have put it in more coherent form! LOL Thanks for the nice compliment, though! :)
Here is a guy named Phil Burress who did a good job in Ohio, and every state and every county has many people like Phil, who contributed to the cause.
There are Swiftboat Vets, regular vets, catholics, jews, evangelicals, seniors, young people, hispanics, even some blacks, soccer moms, security moms, "Get-out-the-vote" workers, Karl Rove, Ken Mehlman, Peggy Noonan, Karen Hughes, Sean Hannity, Rush, Tony Snow etc etc etc...thousands of people, famous or not, contributed.
And it created a victory of massive proportions, 59 million worth. Frankly, I credit God Almighty. He wanted President Bush to fulfill his destiny (and legacy) for such a time as this. And I am in awe to President Bush for staying the course and not waivering in spite of unbelievable attacks. The man is truly a Rock! He knows where his strength comes from.
Abortion went down during GHW Bush's term. It continued to go down much more slowly during Clinton's administration, even reversing the downward trend and going up one year. There are no nationwide statistics available yet for the year 2000 on.
Senator Thune will do you proud.
Welcome back from the darkside George.
Moyers is an ironclad idiot. He thought the ad Johnson ran of Goldwater blowing up a little girl picking daisies was funny. Years ago they showed it inside the studio on a political ad documentary and Moyers snickered himself silly. He's a rodent. A Dan Rather wannabe.
