Even after Pennsylvania's other senator, Catholic and self-described pro-life senator Rick Santorum, endorsed pro-abortion Arlen Specter in the primary instead of a pro-life challenger -- which Santorum said he did because only Specter could win the actual election, thus ensuring a GOP majority in the Senate and more pro-life judges ...
Even after the President used his political capital to get Specter elected -- which Specter repaid by not campaigning at all for Bush and not exactly crying for justice when Kerry/Specter for Working Families signs showed up in SE Pennsylvania ...
Even after pro-life workers spent countless hours campaigning for a GOP majority and a GOP president ...
Arlen Specter warns Bush against nominating pro-life judges.
Specter is in line to be the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and would thus wield enormous power over the confirmation process. I hope against hope that the majority leader, Bill Frist, and the other GOP senators will put Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Sessions, or anyone else in charge of the committee. The only thing Specter has going for him is seniority, and that's been ignored before.
Heck, they can move someone with more seniority to the committee and then give him the chairmanship.
Update: Read this column in National Review for more on Specter.
Email your Senators now (go to www.senate.gov and select your state from the menu). Here's what I sent Virginia senators Warner and Allen:
Senator Arlen Specter has told President Bush not to send him any pro-life judges if he is chairman of the Senate judiciary committee.

Further, Arlen Specter did not campaign for President Bush and his political director ran a 527 that was placing "Kerry/Specter for Working Families" signs in SE Pennsylvania. There must be consequences for this disloyalty.
I urge you to ensure that Senator Specter is NOT selected for chairman of the judiciary committee. He is not a loyal Republican.

This guy cannot be trusted with the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee.
Banning abortion for conservatism is the same as the Gay Marriage issue for liberals. It is going to bite us in the ass.
Specter will say or do anything to get power.
Is this possible - since his son is one of those trial lawyers who sues for the big bucks?
I cant believe it. Did he actually say...
" I want all women to have at least 1 abortion in their lives."...?? Thats just outrageous.

Tell them in no uncertain terms that Specter cannot be made Senate Judiciary Chairman
Do NOT take "no" for an answer!
Bush has no Mandate?
Just say "NO" To Specter's Games!

Specter should be removed from the committee. John Kyl should be the Chairman replacing Hatch. Specter can be better used on another committee where his liberal bias won't be so devastating to the current trend in the Republican party.
This is from the NRO article cited in the article and should have been better publicized BEFORE the election. No question, we were duped.
No it won't. Because we're right and they're NOT. There is such a thing as RIGHT and WRONG with no shades of gray. Good versus EVIL. I'm not a relativist, and by their vote neither is a majority of this nation. Abortion is wrong and evil. Homosexuality is also wrong and evil. God said it, I believe it and that settles it.
The GOP is not just the majority party in America today. The GOP is also a pro-life party, with the vast majority of its constituents being pro-lifers. Within his own party, Arlen Spector is in the minority when it comes to respecting and advancing right to life issues, and in overturning Roe v Wade.
Reversing Roe v Wade is not the same thing as banning abortion. Abortion never belonged in the courts to begin with. It is consistent to oppose the judicial activism that forced abortion on demand onto the states just as it would be to use judicial activism to force "gay marriage" on the states.
Only if you believe upwards of 75% of the public favor abortion on demand. My guess is it's closer to 22%.
It's more than abortion. Specter is conservative only when he has to be and liberal whenever he can get away with it. He's also proved himself to be a backstabber.
Except that gay marriage is wrong. Banning abortion isn't.
Exactly! As long as Roe stands, it serves as a precedent for judicial supremacy on a whole host of issues. And judicial supremacy is incompatible with conservatism and a republican form of government.
If abortion is not outlawed, then the United States will come to a definitive end. Allowing abortion requires that the State decree that some human beings are not entitled to the protection of the homicide laws. The United States cannot continue to exist while flouting the basic principle that our rights come to from God, through our created human nature, and that the State exists to secure these rights--not to create them and not to trample them.

Petition to remove Specter as chair...please sign.
Only off by one word :)
Specter is beneath contempt.
However, he's also spineless........and now that his name is up in lights, we can only hope that his cowardice will force him to toe the Party line for a while.
