How Conservatives Should Handle This Election Victory

From One Conservative to All the Rest

Following the remarkable victory by Republicans over Democrats Tuesday in virtually every important respect, many of the people I've talked to on the right are now saying that it's time to show liberals how conservatives win an election--by being forgiving and gracious in victory. We need unity now, they claim, and it's up to us to set the example for others to follow in the future.

Sounds nice, doesn't it? All warm and fuzzy and soft and sweet. I'm quite certain that the folks who feel that way have made their mothers very proud. I mean, with that sort of attitude, one would probably have a good chance of being crowned Miss Congeniality in any major beauty pageant in the country. Unfortunately, right now we're not dealing with a panel of frivolous contest judges, who are just as concerned with our pretty smiles and cheerful dispositions as they are with our political beliefs.

No, we are dealing with the same vicious creeps we've had to contend with since long before Dubya became president the first time around, and if you think that turning the other cheek at this stage in the game is going to win the hearts and minds of even a handful of these people, you clearly haven't been paying a lot of attention to them over the years.

I don't know about any other member of the ''vast right-wing conspiracy,'' but I have no intention of being gracious or forgiving toward the habitual whiners, terrorist appeasers, and communist sympathizers who have mocked our president, degraded the efforts of our troops, and perverted the truth about practically everything from the economy to the war--since the day that Howard Dean became the presumptive presidential front-runner of the Democratic Party.

Ah, but it's the moderates we are trying to impress with our class and calm demeanors, some right-wingers assert. We need to make sure that everyone who might possibly side with us in the future doesn't get turned off to our causes because we've behaved like a bunch of meanies toward all those poor, unfortunate liberals out there. Can't we all just--sniff, sniff--get along?

Well excuse me if I happen to think that bending over and waiting for the leftist media machine to stick the knife in the back and break it off yet again is too freakin' naive for words! If you want to concern yourself primarily with how you assume the moderate middle in this country feels, so be it. You have every right to do so.

Heck, it's not like I have something against moderates. As a matter of fact, most of my friends are moderates, and I happen to think that there's a whole lot more of them out there than most conservatives are willing to admit to.

That having been said, any moderate who would necessarily side with a leftist over me during an ideological fight, simply because I don't feel compelled to sit around and wait for my enemies to regroup and then kick the living crap out of me later, isn't someone I want hanging around to begin with. You see, there's a sincere difference between a political moderate and a total wussie, and why so many conservatives seem to be mistaking one for the other is beyond me.

As far as I can tell, a moderate is simply someone who's less conservative than I am, yet less liberal than most anyone you'd be likely to meet at a Hollywood party. Being in the middle doesn't make a person spineless, just as being on the right at this particular time in history doesn't make you bullet-proof.

And just in case you didn't know it, I'm here to tell you that being gracious in victory, while it may well be a truly honorable thing, is only appropriate when your opponents have exhibited the capacity to respond in that same spirit of good sportsmanship themselves throughout the competition. When they haven't, to heck with graciousness!

As far as I'm concerned, we've finally got the liberal left on the ropes, and there's no better time than now to deliver the knock-out punch. You may believe that going out of your way to treat liberals with respect right now is the right thing to do, but please don't delude yourself into thinking that, if the situation was reversed, they wouldn't do to us exactly what I am proposing we do to them.

If it was conservatism that suddenly found itself cornered and bloody, I can guarantee you that every liberal out there would be stepping up to take one more round-house swing at your head, and the concept of honor would be the last thing on his minds.

You say you want nice? Well I'm just as sorry as I can be, but right now, I'm all niced-out.

I've already heard that the numbers by which Bush won were not record breaking; merely a squeeker like 2000. And the unemployment figures mentioned on Fox today are lies; can't trust anything Fox says. NPR is the only "fair and balanced" program. I can't go on, but you get the picture.

We have to do what's necessary to have peace. Not out of malice, but out of desire to see this country coninue to prosper. The left, hate-America crowd, and the msm's darkness is like a cancer threatening the whole country. We must defend ourselves and the values this country is based on (for our children's sake). Seems like the left has been the ones who've chosen the "it's them or us" attitude - not us IMHO. So be it.

Couldn't agree more. I'm the unforgiving and they're the unforgiven. Like any cancer, they need to be irradiated or excised. Let's start with the Abcess Otherwise Known as The San Francisco Bay Area, and cauterize that wound, because the infection has spread far enough.

I did NOT vote a straight Republican ticket so I can compromise those values. If anybody needs to change their views it is those in the MINORITY!! They just don't understand. We don't want to be governed by their principles.

Being "understanding" to a liberal is as productive as an abused woman being nice to her abuser. It only shows weakness and lack of resolve and self-value, resulting in just more nonsense and damage. The same life dramas play out whether in one household, a nation, or the world. A bully is a bully, is a bully.

It's past time to let them know that unity means "The loser edging a little closer to the winner and being nice to winner".

Not the winner caving in and kissing the losers ass. That's what they want. Not this time I hope.

I don't care about the RATS. Let them stew in their own juices.

I believe our energy should be directed at destroying the MSM -- it would do us a lot more long term good.

We need a viable two-party system in America. We don't need a vile, arrogant, biased news media elite.

"being forgiving and gracious"

WHAT ..?? THIS GUY CAN GO TAKE A FLYING LEAP!

WE WON - THEY LOST - IT'S TIME FOR THE DEMOCRAT/LIBERALS TO BE GRACIOUS AND APOLOGIZE FOR CALLING MY PRESIDENT A LIAR DAY AFTER DAY AFTER DAY AFTER DAY.

Someone on this forum put it quite succinctly:

The minority will be heard, but the majority will rule.

And so, rule we must. We must go forward not in shame, not with permission, but boldly and with confidence, as Reagan would have done. We know our positions are correct - now let's simply execute them. They will work, and we will prosper. Others will naturally follow.

The time for debate and convincing is past. Now, let's simply do what is Right.

Tax reform - flat tax, no deductions or a national sales tax. Pick one but not both.

Tort reform. Waaaay too many stinkin' lawyers.

Health care reform. Market-based. Incentives for individuals.

Education reform - vouchers, vouchers, vouchers. Abolish the Dept of Education. Marginalize the NEA.

Abortion reform. No abortions after brain waves are detectable in the fetus (even tho I personally believe life begins at conception, we need to get this moving in the Right direction).

Immigration reform - close the borders and vigorously defend them. We'll get a twofer because drug flow will slow to a trickle.

Soc Sec reform - privatize aggressively.

Security reform - terminate terrorists, their training grounds, and their ideological bases with extreme prejudice.

UN reform - as in stop funding them and jacking the rent big time.

Feel free to add to the list. Feel free. It's a great feeling. It's a great, free republic.

Um, pardon me, but doesn't that mean the GOP should reach out to the RATs? If Clinton didn't get anything done without us, could it mean perhaps it would be a good idea to do the more popular things NOW and force them to get used to working with us?

For example, say, a BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT?

A LINE ITEM VETO AMENDMENT?

TAX INCREASES ONLY AFTER A PLEBISCITE AMENDMENT?

THE FMA!

I think the public would approve these in incredible numbers. That we have the numbers now and don't put these things on the table for consideration is a shame.

not with permission,

Excuse me, but we HAVE permission. 52% of the electorate said they want George W. Bush to preside over this country. We took a poll, the only one that matters, on what the country desires and the country desires the policies of Bush.

The liberals are soooo looney.

We cannot do anymore damage to the left than what they have
already done to themselves.
Let this be an object lesson for us, that is..

Don't get radical
don't be extremist
stick to the basic principles
(feel free to add on to the list)

Being gracious to liberals is about as smart as being nice to a snake.

And like a snake they will bite us in the a$$ first chance they get.

Does this mean the Republicans are going to finally do something about our bleeding borders and the millions entering illegally?

Oh, never mind....

I think those Democrats who are from 'red'states are going to work with us and they will be welcomed.

It is the hard left of the Blue States, who form the ideological wing of the Democrat Party and who have been blocking Bush, that needs to be ignored.

How should conservatives handle this election victory?

Don't rest on our laurels.
Understand who our enemy is and attack them and their resources.

The single biggest thing we need to keep in our minds is the fact that our enemy's single biggest asset is the mainstream media.

We need to marginalize and destroy the MSM at every chance. It's not fair that every repub who runs for office, has to also run against the entire MSM.

Yes, I'm all for blocking off I-5 at the Oregon border.
