But don't you see, you are victim to the same "elitist" attitudes of many Freepers. God love them, but many Freepers think they are the only "enlightened" Americans and fear that the MSM bias holds sway over their "less enlightened" neighbors.
If anything, the phony exit polls proved that the vast majority of Americans don't believe the MSM and aren't "fooled" by their bias.
I went out with my husband last night, we stopped for coffee and I picked up the NYT there in the shop and read this. I sahred it with my husband because it jumped out at me.
NYT had great pictures of the President and first family and pretty good election info yesterday. I was surprised.
Oh, I stayed up just about all night to see what would
happen. The networks were visibly stalling, calling
states for Kerry as quickly as possible, still not calling
for Bush even when 99% of the votes were in; AS IF THEY
COULD, just by force of sheer will, STOP BUSH, MAKE IT
GO THEIR WAY.
Actually, the whole campaign was obvious which camp
was pulling the strings of the MSM. DISGUSTING!!!
They were so transparent that even I, unobservant as I
am, saw it. It was clear that this election was a
REFERENDUM ON THE MSM, AND THEY KNEW THEY HAD BEEN WEIGHED
IN THE BALANCE AND FOUND WANTING!!
I missed that today -- was that the reason that Fox and NBC didn't call Nevada. Nevada's votes could have been counted twice for the amount of time it took to call Nevada. Not to mention Iowa who had two outstanding precincts and it took forever to call.
Exactly my point.
They don't decide, the voters decide. They only tell us what they "think" until they "know" what the voters have decided. I don't care a bit what they "think", I only care what they "know" after the votes are counted. That's why I never bother to watch "election night" coverage. Frankly, they are usually wrong about what they "think" anyways and what I hear the next day is excuses.
Of course we don't need the media to determine when an election was won; we all knew for hours, but it would have been nice if the media had just called it--it was just so obvious--so we could watch Bush's speech and then go to bed happy, and much earlier.
Kerry knew at 3 AM EST that he would concede the next day, and not contest anything, and yet he refused to concede right then, and Bush waited for two more hours, hoping, and then finally went to bed at 5 AM.
Kerry and the stupid MSM kept Bush and all of us all up for no reason!
Good point, but I don't think so. It's the way most of us were brought up. Most people pretty much take it for granted that the nightly news is more or less true. Journalists, in particular, are trained to admire, not critically examine, icons like Rather.
We've often heard the press referred to as having a herd mentality. Election night, I couldn't help thinking that there's some truth to that.
Leslie STALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Oh, was that two Al Jazeera representatives being
interviewed by Brokaw, breathing out threats in from
Al Quaida that we better go for Kerry?
I agree. And I didn't fall for the numbers of the exit polls. Especially after what happened in the '02 mid terms.
The only reason I posited that theory is that we have interns in our office from KSU and one of the actually said that they were voting for sKerry over W because "Bush had not funded No Child Left Behind and made a mess out of it".
This is a seemingly bright young woman with a 4 year degree from a major university.
I did not mean to come off sounding "eletist".
But I do believe there are a lot of people out there who just believe what they are spoonfed on the tv at night and don't take the time to investigate on their own.
I wanted to Pres Bush to come out and declare victory and to _ with the networks!
Me too, but once again he played the good guy role....:(
I was so ready to celebrate with W that night...
SO WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?? SCREAMING AND KICKING AIN'T GONNA HELP NO ONE if we don't do something!!
Their own exit polls screwed them. They called the lawyers off when they thought they were so far ahead in the evening.By the time Bush Kicked their A$$ late that night it was to late to get lawyers going and hollar voter fraud because earlier in the evening they were saying"things are going so smooth"lol . Then they realized provisional ballots were spread all across the state in repub strongholds too.Not in just dumocrat strong holds. They woulsd look stupid ,and like sore losers if they made the country wait 10 days just to see Kerry get beat by even more votes.
What angered me was that the media was so obviously treading water, waiting to see what Kerry would do. You KNOW they wouldn't have hesitated a moment to call the election for Kerry if the situation had been reversed.
I wanted the media to show some guts and do the right thing. As usual, they let me down.
Thank you.
""The critical moment came at 12:41 a.m. Wednesday, when, shortly after Florida had been painted red for Mr. Bush, Fox News declared that Ohio - and, very likely, the presidency - was in Republican hands. "
And so many FR'ers bashing Fox as being just like the rest.
Of course they had a herd mentality. It's them vs. Drudge.
Let's not forget that Drudge called it for Bush at the right time. After the networks initially delayed and Drudge made the call, they would have legitimized Drudge over themselves by calling it before a concession speech. In my opinion, this is a big part of the story. Drudge is the only outlet with balls enough to speak the truth.
That Nevada took the cake -- even someone on NBC said that Nevada would go Bush because Kerry did not get enough votes coming out of Las Vegas to win.
It was an obvious collusion as NBC and Fox called Florida but would not call Nevada; ABC and CNN called Nevada but wouldn't call Ohio (I think it was ABC and CNN) and it took Fox until Kerry conceded to call Nevada for Bush.
Fox is no better then the rest -- if they really were fair and balanced, they would have told the DNC where to go and called as they saw it! I know I would have had a lot of respect for them -- now I have no more than I have for the rest of the TV News!
I knew it,
and I so posted.
Makes the win all the sweeter.
It was obvious Rather, Brokaw and Jennings
were holding on and hoping.
