Britsh columnist Greg Palast, who fancies himself as a kind of Michael Moore for across the pond, insists in today's column that John Kerry won the majority of the vote in Ohio, and -- at least by his reckoning -- won the election.
Palast tries to use CNN's exit polling data to justify his outlandish position, completely ignoring the actual counts from the state Secretary of State's office. He incredibly attempts to use the race card to further bolster his insane position.
At 1:05 a.m. Wednesday morning, CNN's exit poll showed Kerry beating Bush among Ohio women by 53 percent to 47 percent. The exit polls were later combined withand therefore contaminated bythe tabulated results, ultimately becoming a mirror of the apparent actual vote. Kerry also defeated Bush among Ohio's male voters 51 percent to 49 percent.Palast also insists that the close victory in New Mexico also belongs to Kerry. He blames provisional balloting in that case. What Palast doesn't tell you is that the bulk of the provisional vote -- something the DEMOCRATS insisted on -- went for Democratic candidates (including Kerry), and Kerry still lost the state.the exit polls are accurate. Pollsters ask, "Who did you vote for?" Unfortunately, they don't ask the crucial, question, "Was your vote counted?" The voters don't know.
The election in Ohio was not decided by the voters but by something called "spoilage." Typically in the United States, about 3 percent of the vote is voided, just thrown away, not recorded.
And not all votes spoil equally. Most of those votes, say every official report, come from African-American and minority precincts.
Palast is one who rabidly hates the GOP in general, and the Bush Administration in particular.
Palast practically wanted to desecrate Ronald Reagan's grave, and insisted that he was "in hell" for what he had done in office.
What Palast has little consequence to anyone on this side of the Atlantic, but in the UK, he does his best to stir up as much anti-American sentiment as he possibly can.
My apologies to the UK for giving Palast the moron to them. It sounds like he's OUR village idiot -- or perhaps I should say "one of" our village idiots.
They just won't accept it... To Bad, BUSH WON!!
Actually I think he's an American, at least by birth. He doesn't have an accent and said he voted in the election.
Well, it says at the beginning that he is a British columnist. I think we can be excused for thinking that he is one.
Puh-leeze. I worked in a precinct at this election. Voters get three chances on a written ballot, and that's it. Some spoiled ballots are spoiled by random marks (an elderly person who is very unsteady often drags their pen and makes extra marks), some are spoiled because the voter wasn't paying attention and marked the wrong box, and some - I hate to say it - are spoiled because the voter can't read and won't ask for help.
The supervisor in my polling place did everything possible to make sure that everyone voted, and when the third ballot had been requested, he made sure that the voter knew that they couldn't have another one, but that if they needed someone to help them, they could get it. In one case, they requested help; in another, they didn't.
Incidentally, the supervisor was a black man.
lol.....so you equate bashing a certain individual Marxist Brit with bashing the whole country? Does that mean that when we Americans bash Michael Moore we're "America bashing?"
Needless to say, your "logic" is a bit wanting.
How would the Brits like michael moore messing in their elections?
Did this guy work for the Census when they were trying to use "statistical analysis" to create people instead of actually counting them?
Fine, then take your arguments over to those threads, not this one.
It isn't our British allies that should be bashed..It is the press that thinks were are just too dumb to vote...The left here and there mostly consider conservatives either wild eyed fanatics or dumb bumpkins...The Guardian had a thread on politics talk on "How to assassinate Bush and Cheney"..Outrageous
The difference is Mike Moore is not a Brit.
Palast is an American expatriot. (bloody colonials!)
Sensitive, are you?
The America bashing by the Brits doesn't cease either. I have a choice, either to wet the bed, or give as good as I get.
.....And don't allow a few idiots over on those threads to get you down. There are some in every crowd. The vast majority of American Freepers are happy to have conservative Brits around here -- we share the same core beliefs. .....and enemies.
Did Medved tear him to shreds?
