Just lately (noticeably since the US election result) there seems to be an awful lot of anti-British sentiment on here (there always was a little but I put that down to a handful of xenophobic kiddies)
What I would like to know is do most Freepers now share the low opinion that some (many) on here seem to have of our nation or is it just a small (but very vocal) minority of morons?
I've enjoyed this forum (for the relatively short time that I've contributed) and have always liked Americans in general, but I now find myself reconsidering my thoughts on both.
If we Brits are not liked or wanted around here, I think I'll probably discontinue my involvement.
I've never seen any sort of anti-British sentiment. Typically I don't involve myself in it, because I know there are decent people everywhere, even if it happens to be France or even Canada (I have first hand experience and know quite a few Canadians who love America), and I will defend the decent citizens of any country in the world from the broad brush of hate.
We didn't like The Guardian's meddling in the election. We didn't like that column suggesting that someone step forward and do the world a favor by assassinating GW. That's been the nub of Brit bashing lately, and it doesn't seem outre. So take heart, pull up a chair, and make yourself at home.
You have to realize that the anti-Americanism we see throw our way from the world is getting old. That said, I understand that it is not everyone that feels this way and hope you can understand that that's the same with us. I like the Brits. They were good to my father during WWII and I won't forget it.
When growing up, we had a collection of the "Book of Knowledge" encyclopedias, which I now understand is just a slightly Americanized version of a similarly-named collection in Britian. I thought the president reported to the queen, who ruled both the US and Britian, until I was probably 6 years old.
I believe it's mostly directed at your press and those letters that were sent to Ohio. We don't take kindlly to being told what to do by any other country. National pride, you know.
Oh Please...your media basically calls the majority of American voters worse than fools for voting Republican and we take issue with it.
"You mean you guys celebrate Independence Day, too?" I asked, feigning disbelief.
"No," he said, feigning outrage, "We take the day off -- BUT WE DON'T CELEBRATE IT!"
:-)
Don't go anywhere. This is the best site on the 'Net.
I've seen what you mean and I don't blame you for feeling upset.
People here get pretty PO'd with the Guardian's "pen-pal" program amongst other
Too many Freepers forget that the British have been our, steadfast good allies in the WOT.
(Of course, these are the same people who say, "Every Muslim on the planet ought to be exterminated and that includes the Kurds". We have bigots here, though most of us work to keep that weeded out)
Most of us know better.
I like your posts. I know you are not one of those Guardian people.
You should hang out.
But Lonnie Donnegan and Billy Fury, that's another matter!
Must be just a few morons. I haven't seen it. There is a little bashing of the British press, but heck, we bash our own ~press~. I love the British, love your humor, love your gift with the language, and appreciate your government's support now.
A selection, there's plenty more.

You'll need to read the through threads to find some of the offensive posts I'm on about.
Ah, jeez, I thought you were speaking of Mz Spears :^o
The Brits have brought any 'Brit bashing' here on FR upon themselves.
We were generally positive about the UK until the British media saw fit to first insert themselves into our politics and then engage in wholesale trashing of the president most od us here voted for.
We've had enough of this venomous anti-Americansm, and we're returning fire.
The only Brits I've seen getting bashed are the lunatics at the Mirror and the Guardian, and the ex-pats who live in England and pontificate on all that's "Wrong" about America.
Where have you been for the last two years? The praise for Tony Blair and Jack Straw has been incessant.
I think some people obviously were rubbed quite the wrong way by the Guardian letter-writing disaster, as well as Michale Reade's hideous screed in yesterday's Mirror.
The core of Free Republic is aware that Britain is our greatest ally. I apologize (if they won't) on behalf of the fringe that can hit all the wrong people when lashing out. I value the Brits, and I think we value having you here to share your perspective.
He is probably talking about jokes made here about British teeth. But they were probably made in response to British leftist attacks on Bush and the US.
On the other hand, if you are an honest, conservative, sensible person, you have nothing to fear from FR as a group. There are, of course, individuals who will be individuals.
I'm pretty new here, but I think I have a decent feel for the place by now.
I have always had a fond regard for the British people. I still do. I despise the British Left, as I do the Left in the United States. Tony Blair has been one of the best friends the United States has had in the war on terror. God bless him!
One of my favorite posters is MadIvan (a Brit). I haven't noticed much Brit bashing at FR, except for people like George Galloway and the muslim extremists who take refuge there.
