Luckily for those who look to the media for truth and objectivity, technology is making the mainstream networks less and less relevant. In looking at the media during the election campaign, the most significant event was the role that websites and blogs played in ferreting out the truth. When Rather introduced the forged document concerning George W. Bushs National Guard service, it seemed like only moments before Free Republic and other blogs were posting information that the document could not have been produced on a 1970s era typewriter. That one post will likely mark a turning point in the history of the media and how important stories are covered.

When I read this exchange, I got the impression that this was the closest Dan Rather had come to an on-air bitch-slapping since GHWB gave him the works about walking off the set...

Dan will never get it. We turned to CBS arond 10:00 pm Pacific, because I wanted to watch his meltdown for a minute or two. This was after Fox News had finally called Florida, and it was looking like Ohio was going for Bush. Dan was indeed melting down, and discussing how Kerry could still win. It was really rather pitiful. I laughed at him for a minute or two, then went to bed, happy.

When anchormen start arguing about math, it's Jenny lock the door and hold down the dog because we have to give him some medicine he's not going to like.

Rather is only now realizing that he and his ilk are sinking into the tar pit.

"That one post will likely mark a turning point in the history of the media and how important stories are covered." This sounds like a hearty endorsement!

just because a chicken has wings, doesnt mean it can fly.Just because a news anchor can talk, doesn't mean he will make sense.
Just because a news anchor shows up for work, doesn't mean anyone will watch him.
Just because Dan is full of it, doesn't mean he knows $hit.

When I was young I thought mass media was the truth.
It was better then (the 60's and 70's)
but it must've been dirty already to have turned out like it has.
Sadly, nothing's truly been exposed!
Nothing's changed!
School children today are told by their teachers
mass media is the truth.

Great little story on Rather. Simply Great.
I think that Rather and Cronkite should retire to the
same university so they can do their lives' passion with
out criticism.

I am curious about all of the military absentee ballots. Have they all been counted yet?
I assume that if those votes have not been counted yet that when they do the total numbers for G.W. will increase.

A chicken CAN fly, especially when fired out of a cannon. And I predict Rather will soon be fired, too. Maybe not out of a cannon.

The Dan just couldnt bring himself to consider the possibility that George W. Bush could win Ohio and a second term. And when Rather next called upon Bradley, he introduced him as Ed Bradley who is not a mathematics professor. Bradley then piped up that he did in fact teach math at one point in his life."

I'm still dumbfounded that CBS would put this hack on TV election night after he did his best to influence this election in a criminal manner. It's a travesty. (Does anyone know if his forgery is being investigated?)

We have many good friends north of the border in Canada. We should really be aware that there are large numbers of Conservative folk up there who appreciate what we do here. Eh?
