Dan Rather, the CBS anchor who is well past his sell-by date, was verging on losing it in the early morning hours of November 3. Ed Bradley had carried out a mathematical calculation that showed that George W. Bush needed only to obtain 15 per cent of Ohios absentee and provisional ballots to win the state and the presidency. A visibly upset Rather then came out with one of his famous Danisms--just because a chicken has wings, doesnt mean it can fly.
In a poignant comment, Bradley defended himself by saying that he wasnt making the math up--the figures came from Republicans in Ohio. This is what the mainstream media has degenerated into--a journalist forced to admit that hes reporting something and not making it up.
The Dan just couldnt bring himself to consider the possibility that George W. Bush could win Ohio and a second term. And when Rather next called upon Bradley, he introduced him as Ed Bradley who is not a mathematics professor. Bradley then piped up that he did in fact teach math at one point in his life.

I tuned over because the only thing I wanted to hear out of Dan Rather was, "George W. Bush has won reelection". I Couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Here is the dean of TV news babbling like an idiot.
What's worse, he was reading it off a script. I guess there is no real meaning to, "If a frog had pockets he'd carry a side arm".

I got a folksy saying for Dan Rather
Free Republic is "going to be all over you like a chicken on a June bug" until you retire to oblivion.

How can Dan Rather lose it?
He never "had" it.

A chicken CAN fly, especially when fired out of a cannon. And I predict Rather will soon be fired, too. Maybe not out of a cannon.

Yeah, it was corrupt then, but perhaps not so blatantly biassed (although their attacks on Nixon probably rose to that level). I think a big part of the Bush hating is payback for Clinton's impeachment, so hold on!

Dan was discussing how Kerry could still win. Same here - I turned to my wife and said "when they're explaining how their candidate could still possibly win, it means they've lost".

I'm still dumbfounded that CBS would put this hack on TV election night after he did his best to influence this election in a criminal manner. It's a travesty. (Does anyone know if his forgery is being investigated?)

We have many good friends north of the border in Canada. We should really be aware that there are large numbers of Conservative folk up there who appreciate what we do here. Eh?

My hubby was actually kind of ticked off that I changed the channel, but it made for instructive viewing to see Dan Blather, er, blathering. Schadenfreude.

I don't want to see Blather retire. He's become a parody of himself, and his broadcasts now have the journalistic integrity of the Weekly World News. If he leaves, CBS will only replace him with some one just as much liberal bias, and we'll have to start the whole process of discrediting them from scratch....

When I was young I thought mass media was the truth.
It was better then (the 60's and 70's)
but it must've been dirty already to have turned out like it has. No, it wasn't any better at all. We just didn't have any way to know how bad it was.
Cronkite's coverage of the Tet Offensive is a prime example of just how bad it really was. Military success in the field was viewed as a horrendous defeat at home primarily based on his reporting of it.

"Dan will never get it. We turned to CBS around 10:00 pm Pacific, because I wanted to watch his meltdown for a minute or two."
I did the same thing. It was pitiful. He kept creating scenarios where Kerry won, each more improbable than the last. Meanwhile anyone with basic math skills and a cursory knowledge of Ohio politics had figured out it was over. (Barone on Fox was terrific).
It was sad and terrible to see such irrelevant but blatant bias.
