"Regrettably, we have seen an erosion in the Senate of centrists on both sides of the aisle," said Sen. Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, a Republican moderate whose leverage may drop substantially in the next Congress. She said she hoped Bush will push for cooperation between the two parties.
Another GOP moderate, Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee (R.I.), expressed even deeper disappointment, telling the Providence Journal he would not rule out switching to the Democratic Party.

If both of them went tomorrow, and took Alren Spector with them, I wouldn't shed a tear.
Just like I told Jumpin Jim Jeffords in an email shortly before he left, don't let the door hit you on the way out. RINO's make us weak.
BS. Out and out liberal.
Nelson,Mary L., The woman from Ark and a couple of others will have to clean up their voting records or suffer the fate of Tiny Tom and Max Cleland. They don't dare vote to fillibuster judges .
Bill Nelson of Florida won't jump. Ben Nelson of Nebraska...maybe.
Can statehood be revoked for Rhode Island?
Senator Lincoln Chaffee coming out as a Democrat is like Richard Simmons coming out as a ... well, just coming out.
Thats just a childish threat so no one DENIES him the judiciary chair. Let him go if need be. no great loss. He can't be any less Republican with a (D) after his name, and we might unseat him if he switches to (D)
51 GOP
4 RINO
45 DEM
"Regrettably, we have seen an erosion in the Senate of centrists on both sides of the aisle,"
STFU ya RINO!
Frankly I wish it was possible to kick Chafee out of the party. You will not find any Republicans crying over the loss.
Naw, he was a commie too. Voted against Bork.
I don't care if he's retracted it or not. The fact that he was craven enough to say it a day after the election, not before, should cost him the chair.

This is unbelievable! Why are these politicians not condemned by the media? And I would be just upset if a Dem switched to the Rep side.
Imagine if you were a Republican in RI and every year you sent $2000 to his campaign thinking that at least you were keeping the Senate in Republican hands. You betray your constituents and every person that votes for you.
I don't have a problem with people switching, but they should wait till their term ends and then run as a Republican in their next term.
true, but we can't afford to lose them all. Chaffee, Collins, Snowe, Spector. That's 4 senators, we can't afford to come out of this significant election with gains, only to lose 4 senators who switch parties.
and then let's not forget McCain and Hagel are still around.
you're nuts. now you say we should toss McCain too? add them all up, toss McCain, Spector, Hagel, the two Maine babes, Chaffee - amnd guess what, the Dems control the Senate.
Genetic regression towards the mean is a terrible thing to watch.
