Michigan: The Mood (Pollwatcher accounts of vote fraud in Detroit)
National Review Online's Battlegrounders ^ | 11/4/04 | Henry Payne

Republicans in Michigan are breathing a sigh of relief today - and not only because President Bush won a second term, despite narrowly losing Michigan.

In Detroit, mostly white Republican poll watchers dispatched to monitor mostly-black city vote counting encountered uncomfortable, racially charged situations. Poll watchers overseeing absentee vote-counting at Cobo Center, for example, reported widespread fraud in the counting of ballots. The incident raised the specter of a politically dicey GOP lawsuit, a move now less urgent given Bush's national victory.

"Craziest thing I've ever seen," said one poll watcher. "They had 100 tables and just five poll watchers trying to monitor them. Every table had a pile of empty ballots. If the machine rejected a ballot, the workers would just take a fresh ballot, fill it in the way they thought the voter wanted (Detroit voted heavily for Kerry), and then put THAT ballot through the machine." The poll watcher also reported unsigned ballots being counted in the machines, a violation of absentee procedures.

Alarmed by this open fraud, the party brought in more poll watchers only to be confronted, according to a Detroit Free Press account, by a Kerry campaign lawyer "who arrived and began yelling at the 20-30 GOP lawyers." Policemen were called to restore order to the proceedings after which the additional Republican poll watchers were all escorted off the premises.

The Cobo vote fraud was the most serious incident in an evening that included a judge ruling for Republicans when poll watchers were cast out of other polling places. Democratic voters, in turn, complained that "they felt intimidated by a stranger watching them and wanting to check identification" according the Free Press account. All in all, an unsettling evening here in Southeast Michigan.

Tell me that prosecutions and law suits are being pursued in Wisconsin though ... that state has to change its 'sameday' registration/vote policy. Do they even ask for ID's?

"Democratic voters, in turn, complained that "they felt intimidated by a stranger watching them and wanting to check identification""

Interesting how a Republicans idea of vote fraud in Michigan is when the Demmies are actually seen re-writing ballots and stuffing boxes to favor John Kerry, whereas the Dems idea of "Republican vote fraud" is when they are asked to show their ID's at the polling center.

My God! How can we be so bold as to ask them for proof that they are actually legally registered to vote where they are? Us evil Republicans are raping the Democratic process! //Heavy sarcasm off//

And a good start would be to:

1.)Do away with Motor Voter Laws.

2.) Unregister everyone and start over with a new Voter Registration list.

Only people who can prove citizenship and identity are added to the new Voter Registration list.

3.)No death certificate is issued for anyone until they have been removed from Voter Registration lists.

I was checking the voting lists to call Republicans who hadn't voted to "get out the vote".

I'd take the list home to my husband who made the calls while I went to another precinct to check it.

After I came back to the first precinct which is heavily democratic, the voter list was missing.

It is generally attached outside for poll checkers and voters to look at. It was gone...just gone.

They let me in the room to look over the shoulder of the lady who was crossing off the names on the only list they had left, and gave me as much access to it as they could, but it was much more difficult.

So, I took my Republican master list home and just called everyone still outstanding. In the end it didn't make much difference; but I wondered whether it was a Democrat dirty trick, if someone had noticed me using the list and took it for that reason.

I can't believe I agree with Jackson but it isn't we who are racists. Having only white poll workers in a black precinct just shouldn't be done. I'll bet a lot of blacks who went to vote wondered if there were any black republicans.

Voter fraud and tight voter restrictions should be #1 on the agenda.

Tort reform should be #2. Impoverish the plaintiff's bar, and the Democratic Party will be severely de-funded.

#3 should be clamping down on unions, enforcing the CWA vs. Beck decision that should prevent union dues from being spent on political purposes (but in fact does not.)

#4 should be the de-funding of the left wing non-governmental organizations. Outfits like the Sierra Club, ACORN and Southern Poverty LAw Center are given generous grants of taxpayer money, which is used to promote far-left political causes. Bleed them white.

#5 needs to be a revisitation of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform act. People like George Soros must never again be allowed to try to buy an election, but on the other hand, it must be done in a way that would not prevent the little guys from giving $50 and $100 to the NRA-ILA or the Swifties.

Now is the time. Kick them when they're down, hard, and right in the nuts! We have the opportunity to cement the political ascendancy of the Right for forty years if we do this properly, without hesitation or mercy.

Yeah, it's funny how one has that intimidated feeling when someone else is watching them commit voter fraud.

LOL aint that the truth.

I like all of those ideas you outline. Especially the simultaneous 24 hour voting timeframe.

Demecrats will soon scream Nazi as their decades of vote fraud are exposed and closed down.

I say in future we should adopt casino employee style rules for counting ballots.

Everything is video taped, from all angles.

If that means 200 cameras for 100 tables, so be it.

we need to document and record the counting.

Even if it means streaming the whole dull even on the web for all to see.
