Hello.
Over the past hour or so, there have been individuals who have hit abuse dozens upon dozens of times, sometimes for the very same thing they had previously hit abuse on.
Please do not do this. It is highly annoying.
I am aware that there are about 10 threads on Arafat dying. I made the decision that I was not going to pull all of them. I did not want to lose the first few comments made on them, and besides, the explosion of threads on FR when something big happens is somewhat of a tradition. I'll be pulling new threads, at least the new ones that do not have actual real articles associated, but the ones that were up will remain up.
If you don't agree with this policy, I am sorry and I did hear your complaints. If Jim wants the approach taken changed, he'll let us know. But one person hitting abuse 5 or 6 times on the same thread saying "duplicate, please pull" is just being a pest.
Also, about the CBS/not-dead thread. If CBS is reporting that, it is news regardless of if CBS has the story right or wrong. If they have it right, then it is news about Arafat. If they have it wrong, then it is news about CBS. Either way, I am not taking that thread down. Besides, it was a missed opportunity when the abuse report came in "He's dead." The correct abuse report should have been, "He's dead, Jim."
Thanks, AM
I'm blind!
NOOOOooooooooo!
Admittedly, I've hit the ABUSE button a lot lately too. Lots of Newbies and Trolls with Vanities and purposeful disruption.
Repeatedly submitting abuse reports when you disagree...
is gay.
Isn't if fun offending people who need to be offendend. :P
Well, that's all well and good but all I need is this desk....and this keyboard.... and this lamp. That's all I need. And this radio. This desk and this keyboard and this lamp and this radio. That's all I need. And this pen....
Contrary to popular belief, you do have a sense of humor... :O)
I question the timing of this thread.
That makes you a masochist.
I understand the desire to preserve comments, but when the initial post amounts to "breaking" or developing," aren't the admins able to lock duplicate threads without deleting them, and funnel them into one main thread? That would preserve the desirable posts while ore informative threads like your CBS example could still stand alone.
BTW, you guys have done a great job filtering duplicate threads the last few days, especially Election Night. I know some feel you can't have enough "Susan Estrich looks Weird" commentary, but the appeal eludes me.
What's this got to do with Elian?
"HE HATES OIL CANS!"
c'mon Stupid (in the edited version)! Let's get away from these oil cans!!!
Thank you for all of your hard work here.
I agree with the sentiment that in the case of breaking news (election, arafat, etc)... if you'd rather not pull all the duplicates in order to preserve the posts, it would be okay to lock them and refer readers to the "main" thread.
I've noticed a good many threads as duplicates, many by newer FReepers (especially since the CBS story), so perhaps it'd be a good time to revisit a posting etiquette thread.
Which would of course include.. "Your every thought does not need a vanity ... let alone in News/Activism".
Thank you again... your diligence is appreciated :)
I've never hit the "report abuse" button, but now that I know I can irritate someone by doing it I'll start.
This post should be a vanity!
How the heck do you add a topic?
I clicked on Add A Topic to put this in breaking news...now the link is gone???
:>)
I thought about it - but I'm one of those people who DOESN'T think FR is a "blog", so I try not to post vanities, except for prayers ... and in chat.
There seem to be a lot of people who think FR is a blog (gee thanks CBS yet again), so it deserves their every thought in its own thread. Difference of opinion :)
Hmmm, should I report abuse on you or not?
Personally, I like to play with trolls before they are offed.
