I believe it was the lies of 500 Bush-hating books, the Saudis in the White House, the Big Oil written energy plan, and Hefty Lefty's Farenheit 9/11 propaganda.

The problem is the mainstream press. After every word from his mouth, they recharacterize and summarize and call on the Democrats to respond. I blame the media for the muddled messages.

%%%%%

I hope you were able to hear the President's press conference just now. For about the first five questions, he started his answers with a variation of "as you must have gotten tired of hearing me say over and over again during my campaign appearances..."

What a beautiful way to alert the TV audience that he has been spreading a message which hasn't gotten through the filter of the biased media to the wide American audience.

It should have been a bigger victory, and Republicans need to examine carefully why it wasn’t.
Celebrate the day. But when the time for reflection comes you've to wonder why the margin of success wasn't a chasm. Think, the dems have been running Gore and Kerry. There is the tendency to think that with the proper amount of money and some organization that a cigar store Indian could beat either of those two. A margin of 3% is not that heartening.

As for DanPeterTom, they are increasingly irrelevant in this country.
I'd say they were one of the biggest losers in this election.

$$$$$

And how sweet it is!

The Dems have a long-term problem: their vote is becoming more and more concentrated in a few enclaves on the Pacific coast and the Atlantic north of Washington, even as the population shifts to the south and the mountain states.

Thanks for the ping, Pokey78!

Eleven electorial votes moved from the Northeast to the South and Southwest after the 2000 census, and in 2004 that also helped Bush.

Two terrific quotes from this article:

They don’t seem to understand the point I’ve been making for years now — that the Democrats and the media reinforce each other’s delusions....

and

‘President Bush has won the first battle (Afghanistan) but he’s in danger of losing the war. The war isn’t with al-Qa’eda, or Saddam, or the House of Saud. They’re all a bunch of losers.... In a unipolar world, it’s clear that the real enemy in this war is ourselves, and our lemming-like rush to cultural suicide.’ Transformative leaders use turbulent times to reshape the nation, as FDR did with the Depression. Back in his 90 per cent approval-rating days, Bush could have used the new war to shift the culture, to toughen it.....

This is a fabulous article. Just really insightful and on the mark regarding this election and the late great democratic party of America.

ALOHA RONNE, all,
Isn't it true that the largest enemy we are facing is the enemy within? We stood up, the silent majority MARCHED FORWARD in this election, sending a message to the liberal wanks who are embarrassed by our nation's resolve to fight terror and spread freedom and sending a message to Osama and his pig pen that terrorist cowards who strike at the unarmed and unsuspecting will NEVER dictate an American election. EVER!

And liberals underestimated another weapon, our very best and most intense weapon of all, PRAYER!

Thank you Father! Forever!

"...the Democrats and the media reinforce each other’s delusions."

Right on! And this explains their disbelief at the huge conservative/Bush victory. They are clueless about how out-of-touch they are.

"I believe it was the lies of 500 Bush-hating books....,"

I don't think they swayed many people who didn't already have an irrational hatred for Bush.
45% of the voters would have pulled the lever with a "D" next to it even if they were running a rutabega for president (oh wait, that would have been Algore in 2000).
I think we could have gotten a good part of the remaining 3%, I mean we're in the middle of a war (with a decent economy) for cryin' out loud.
I'm sorry, but I'm with Coulter on this one.

After more careful reading the word re-elect in the sentence, it appears that (gasp) I was wrong. Thanks.

The party is intellectually exhausted and short of talent, which is how a vain, mediocre senator ended up with the nomination.
