Evan Thomas on "Imus in the Morning" - "They took Kerry's cell-phone away from him twice."
"Imus in the Morning" program on MSNBC | November 4, 2004 | Evan Thomas

Posted on 11/04/2004 3:27:35 AM PST by snarks_when_bored

Evan Thomas was just on "Imus in the Morning" on MSNBC. He's starting to spill his guts on the stuff the MSM hid from the public about John Kerry and his campaign.

First, Thomas admits that Kerry's staff took his cell-phone away from him twice, in order to prevent him from calling hundreds of people to decide what he should think about a particular issue. Imus adds that Kerry called him, Imus, on more than one occasion asking for advice.

This information was apparently not deemed newsworthy before John Kerry might have been elected President of the United States.

Next, Thomas candidly describes Teresa Heinz-Kerry as a self-absorbed hypchondriac. Whenever she spoke to gatherings during the campaign, she was boring and concentrated only on herself. (Of course, we knew that, but what we see is that the MSM was holding back from describing the kind of disaster that even they knew Teresa would have been had she become First Lady.)

More 'revelations' will doubtless follow.

Doris just said on Imus that, if Bush knows what's good for him, he won't nominate any "far-right" Supreme Court justices.

Whatareyougonnadoaboutit Doris? What a laugher.

What kind of a nominee for president would allow a phone to be taken away from him?

Let's really nail their coffin closed once we bring them down finally.

I was of this same mind until I pondered it for a while the other day while talking with some friends. These are conservative people and we all kinda agreed that the MSM should stay in place. The network and infrastructure alone are worth saving. The conclusion was that they need staffing changes at the top, especially in the editorial departments. Once this happens the effect will trickle down to reporters and hopefully we'll be able to get an objective view of the world.

That said, I believe it important to note that the blogsphere and online journalism will experience a heyday and begin to be legitimized. It is to us, but not to all of America, or the world for that matter.

He's worse than fair game now. First, he lost to the much-hated Dubya. Second, he will be hammered by all of those seeking to show how Hillary would have done it better. He'll think he's in the Night of the Longknives.

You are correct. Third, he conceded the next day.

He will resign his Senate position within the next year or so.

NO!

We want him to run for reelection in '06 so the Swiftees can work him over some more!

I don't object to getting the discharge info released, but if you think it will effect anything, it won't.

People will view the discharge as the result of a bitter Nixon administration.

You know this just chaps me. Why don't they report this stuff?

I'm not one to defend the MSM or Evan Thomas, but I will a little on this one.

Apparently, NewsWEAK was given behind-the-scenes access to both campaigns under the agreement that they would not publish anything about it until after the election.

Now, I have no doubt that if something crazy happened in the Bush campaign, they surely would have leaked it out through some other channel like the Internet.

And the record of this election is that both the media AND the Bush campaign went easy on Komrad Kerry.

IMHO, they let Edwards off too easy. They should have gone after him from the shyster trial lawyer angle, for suing doctors/Medicare, and for his inexperience (one-term Senator right to VP, with no foreign policy experience?). The RATS made Cheney an issue - we should have made Edwards an issue.

He has been a disgrace as naval officer, politician, gigolo, and human being.

Wrong on one account, sir. He got the gigolo thing down pretty good. He got his "Janes" to pay for Presidential and Senatorial Campaigns. Not too shabby. Kerry is a "man of leisure". I know a lot of Italian men (in Italy) who actually strive for this sort of existence. In many circles it's considered a real accomplishment to not work and be a kept man in Italy.

Notice how good Kerry is at his activities (kite surfing, wind surfing, snow boarding, etc). That stuff takes some practice to become better than novice. Kite surfing in particular hasn't been around that long. For a 60 year old man to do that with relative proficiency requires hours and hours ass up in the water. It's pretty darn hard to get the hang of even for a young man with surfing and wind surfing experience.

The real point is that his entire life has been shaped by convenience rather than achievement. In his world "it's not what you know, but who you know" is the standard modus operandi. He has never done anything alone. He certainly doesn't know anything about business because he's never worked for a living. He's never known what it's like to be ultimately responsible for his family. His wives have always been the ones with the bacon. Sure he made some coin in his various government positions, but here's the rub - he has never created wealth.

Doris says that during the concession speech she actually saw affection between Kerry and Teresa

It is time for Kerry to suck up big-time so he doesn't lose his meal ticket or allowance.

They've got to blame it on the candidate. Surely it can't be that they are out of step with the majority of the country. Surely it can't be them and their values that got beat. It's gotta be that stupid candidate Kerry.....

Doris Kearns Plagiarist Goodwin must be in complete meltdown today.

Joseph Goebbels Plagiarist Biden was reportedly slated to be Kerry's secretary of state. Plagiarism might have become fashionable among the Washington crowd.

Don't forget Mike Barnicle. He was supposed to be White House Communications Director.

I would like to see someone get video of Kerry responding to Brokaw's question last week that he had not signed the form to release his records and use that footage in ads during his re-election campaign in 2008.

When I heard him interviewed on The Today Show I heard for the first time about the agreement so I understand a little better now. You are right that if W had done something like that it would have hit the news. A few days ago Evan Thomas stated the MSM coverage/bias was worth about 15 points to Kerry. These Kerry incidents which Newsweek is free to report now did not happen in a vacuum. The other members of the MSM saw what was going on and they were not under any such agreement.

Americans don't like bloody bull-fights.
None of Rove's pro-Bush critics (and there are many) were calling for a bloody bull-fight. Just the facts, mam. Nothing but the facts.
There was a mountain of facts. They didn't use them.

What I meant was: Americans saw that Democrats were creating the bloody bull fight and they reacted to that.

Not that Rove was doing that.
