Bush Claims Mandate for War, Tax Agenda

President Bush Wins Re-Election Over Sen. Kerry, Pledges to Pursue Agenda on Taxes, Iraq.

WASHINGTON Nov 3, 2004 — President Bush claimed a re-election mandate Wednesday after a record 59 million Americans chose him over Democrat John Kerry and voted to expand Republican control of Congress as well. He pledged to pursue his agenda on taxes and Iraq while seeking "the broad support of all Americans."

Kerry conceded defeat in make-or-break Ohio rather than launch a legal fight reminiscent of the contentious Florida recount of four years ago. "I hope that we can begin the healing," the Massachusetts senator said.

Claiming a second term denied his father, George H.W. Bush, the president struck a conciliatory tone, too. "A new term is a new opportunity to reach out to the whole nation," he said, speaking directly to Kerry's supporters.

"To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support and I will work to earn it," he said. "I will do all I can do to deserve your trust."

His father must be so proud.

Every article I've read on President's Bush's VICTORIUS REELECTION has taken a shot at him or someone he loves. It's disgusting.

As much as anything, the Bush Victory is a mandate for the Constitutional Marriage Amendment.

Dims: Oh, no, he didn't get a tax mandate from those 54 MILLION voters. No. They voted for him because he is a nice guy, a national guard type guy, not a real combat vet like our guy. No, we want him to come to the middle and work with us! /sarcasm off.

"As much as anything, the Bush Victory is a mandate for the Constitutional Marriage Amendment. "

If Bush is into amendments, shouldn't a pro-life amendment come first?

national sales tax = end of class warfare (via democrat propoganda). Raise taxes on anything and you raise them on everyone. It is progressive and fair and will raise productivity. Especially if combined with reducing domestic spending.

national sales tax = end of the democratic party.

Pressure your Republican Reps!

Jeeze this pisses me off. The MSM is making it out to be a magnanimous gesture on Kerry's part - forgoing a legal fight, when Kerry himself was FORCED TO ADMIT that there were simply NOT THE VOTES outstanding to overcome Bush's lead.

It wasn't magnanimous - it was a MANDATE!.

BTW folks, keep in mind that with our bigger, Chafee-proof majority, we will control the adopted rules for the next Senate session.

By a simple majority, we can disallow judicial fillibusters.

Call Frist now and demand he not adopt any rules that allow for fillibusters.

Do you see a pro-life mandate in this election?

11 states voted to uphold traditional marriage, and that brought out the social conservatives that didn't show up in 2000. That's your margin of victory. Mandates are the priority, not wishlists.

Well, it will be interesting what "overhaul the tax code" means.

Hastert has said in the past that the House (assuming the GOP retained control, which it thankfully did) will hold hearings to evaluate proposed alternatives. If you have a particular favorite proposal, now is the time to start working on getting draft legislation, studies, presentations, FAQs, etc., put together, because it will be a "priority" in the 2005-6 Congress.

I hope the Republicans try some significant budget cuts next year in addition to cooperating with the house on taxes.
