Oil Pipeline Explodes In Walnut Creek; One Confirmed Dead
POSTED: 1:40 pm PST November 9, 2004
UPDATED: 2:48 pm PST November 9, 2004
WALNUT CREEK -- A gas main has exploded near Las Lomas High School's football field on South Main Street near Highway 680 in Walnut Creek, sending a huge plume of smoke and flames skyward.
At least one person has died, four others have been injured, at least one home destroyed and there were evacutions underway at the high school and on part of North Main Street.
Fire officials said that three apartment buildings and one house caught fire from the initial explosion.
"All of a sudden we heard a boom," said Laura Roy, who has an office near the scene. "It's in a dense area of homes. From our vantage point it doesn't look like its spreading, but it must be."
Few other details were available at this time.
That you are Piper. We need you here.
Return of the undead.
What's the content of the guide look like? (Wondering what sorts of things they included in there).
I lived with my grandparents from September 1966 to November 1966. Their apartment was at 1025 Redgate Ave in Norfolk, VA. I just looked it up on MapQuest. I never knew the area was called Ghent. I attended the elementary school about 6 blocks north.
The area that is Norfolk, VA today was onced deeded to my mother's ancestors as "Fanshaw's Bottom". There are still some streets in town that bear her family name.
His middle name must be Lazarus.
BTW did you hear Ashcroft just resigned?
Just heard, not totally unexpected or uncommon. There will be more, probably staggered out over the next couple of months.
Halo2: X-Box native video game, sequel to the X-Box best-seller Halo (a first person shooter with everything from fairly realistic firearms to fanciful energy weapons). Very big among young males still in school, or without real lives, and for down-time among tech geeks.
I expect he's glad of a break, he must have been under intolerable pressure since 911.
And that is only from the democrats/liberal media here in America. Add to that the threat of terrorism. (sarcasm)
LOL!
But unfortunately not far from the truth.
That recruitng station is legendary in the army. Seems that during the turbulent 1960's at the height of the war in 'Nam, if you were a recruiter at THAT station, you were entitled to combat pay.
Wow! That fills in some gaps for me. My wife did some research on the area and found out that Ghent was at one time the "fashionable suburb" of Norfolk in the late 1600's. Now it's the local version of Greenwich Village, home to libs and worse, but also some nice restaurants.
Red kryptonite has unpredictable effects. White kryptonite does not affect Superman, but does affect the Bizarro Supermen, I believe.
Ah, thanks. As Mom to 2 girls, I know nothing of these things.
Note, HALO 2 also has a storyline line intentionally geared toward criticizing the War on Terror. I'll try to find the article and post it. Basically, though, it involves aliens who want to impose their religion on earth, and as you fight your way to the alien stronghold and kill them, you find out that they were just being true to their faith.
Hmph.
The contents of the Disaster Preparedness Guide are as follows:

- Hazard Specific Information: Weather Disasters, Fires, Earthquakes, Carbon Monoxide, Disease Outbreaks and Biological Events, Radiation Exposure, Building Collapses or Explosions, Hazardous Materials or Chemical Spills, and last but not least - Thoughts on Terrorism.
- The last section deals with Special Needs such as Seniors and People with Disabilities.
- There is also a section on Subway Preparedness and an Emergency Reference Card in the back.
