Two 'highlights' from Elizabeth Edwards' just-completed interview on the Larry King show:
1. in describing the need to bring the country back together after the election, she expressed the fear W would be incapable of doing it, because he engaged in "character assassination" during the campaign; and
2. asked what her priorities would be if her husband and Kerry are elected, she mentioned her desire to be an advocate for military families, saying they haven't been fairly treated, and that military families hesitate to criticize W for fear of "recriminations by the Commander-in-Chief."
My sincerest condolences to you, texas flower. I saw that news story on TV, and thought, What a Patriot!
God bless your Dad. I am sure he is up in heaven, putting in a good word for W to the Big Guy.
I have nothing but dislike in my heart for this woman...but there are plenty of things to hate and mock about her without zeroing in on her weight.
By all means make fun of her hair, her facial expressions, her words, her stupidity. Shred her dowdy clothing choices. Compare her integrity to Jabba the Hut, her reasoning skills to a Shar-Pei's... Liken her intellect to a cow or her demeanor to a pig...but....
I have to tell you, folks, reading posts day after day where an overweight woman is compared physically to barnyard animals and crudely assumed to be piggish in her eating habits and ugly BECAUSE of her round body hurts MY feelings...because I happen to be a chubby Republican woman. I am also attractive, smart, funny, and many other positive things.
I'm sure others do judge me by my size. I imagine if I was in the public eye, people might say hurtful things about my body, too. I don't know about you, but I also have MANY overweight female friends and relatives who make Mrs. Edwards look downright svelte. Their extra pounds (and mine) don't indicate gluttony and a weakness of character. I do take responsibility for my size and I've been trying my best not to feel despised on this forum whenever Mrs. Edwards is so openly despised for her body shape as well as her politics.
Just to show it is not a "woman thing", let me say that I hate Michael Moore for a lot of reasons, but I don't typically mock his weight. I happen to be married to a darling man who has struggled with his weight his entire life. I am the daughter of an overweight, much-loved father, the daughter-in-law of an overweight sweetheart of a father-in-law, the friend of a wonderful, overweight brother-in-law. That issue hits too close to home for me to find it amusing and I would hate to think that others make the same assumptions about their size that they regularly make about Michael Moore's admittedly unattractive portliness.
Yet, today, to my surprise, I found myself joining in with the cool kids, calling Mrs. Edwards a "plump frump"...knowing what my own body looks like in the mirror every day...and I felt ashamed.
I'm not sure what it accomplishes to say these words here, but I felt compelled to say them...in respect for all the other plump wives, girlfriends, sisters, mothers, and friends who might also be reading these "Mrs. Edwards jokes" every day...and wincing.
Thanks for listening.
Wouldn't you hate to be as rich and good looking as John Edwards and have a wife who is a fat pig?
Since WHEN does SHE have ANY say over what military families think?
Amen to that. The best Bush endorsement the Democratic ticket could come up with.
What a touching story. Thanks for sharing - I hadn't seen it. I hope you will be comforted by these beautiful memories.
I'm up late through a combo of election jitters and Monday Night Football. But heading off to bed now to be ready for Katie & Co. tomorrow morning!
Well said.
Very nice post. Right on the money.
Nothing could be said about this group of low-classed creeps that they don't deserve.
I can't believe they even have a chance of winning.
God Bless you. Katie and friends will be especially disgusting tomorrow.
Thank for doing that for us!
Good night!
You're right - we let our lesser angels carry us away at times. It's nothing to be proud of, but I guess it's all very human, particularly when people are as on edge as we are tonight.
Thank you for those kind words. We are VERY proud of him.
I don't think he's good looking at all. He looks like a little boy, not a man.
Her kids play hide and seek under her muu-muu.
And she buys her bras at the Volkswagen dealership.
OK...that's it. I will repeat the same line that Lynne Cheney said about John Kerry. Only I speak of Eliz Edwars when I say: "This is NOT a good woman."
Shame on you Mrs. Edwards for saying such a terrible thing about our President. You should have the respect and love from our military that our President enjoys. But after tomorrow you and the Breck girl can go back to the pitiful lives you led before you were chosen as the Ketchup boy's running mate only now we know the both of you for who you really are.
Don't take it personally. If Liz had buck teeth, someone would get her on buck teeth. Now, I must take note here at my distress at the numerous remarks against sows. I wish people would stop it. You know sows have feelings and dignity too. To compare them to Edwards's wife is uncalled for and damages their reputation.
Derrrrrr. sure.
Military voters choose Bush 4 to 1 over Kerry because they "fear" what HE might do?
These are folks trained to fight and die. Many of them have been dodging bullets and other noisemakers for the last couple of years.
More proof the democrats aren't ready for prime-time.
