CBS/NY Times Poll: Bush 51%, Kerry 43% Among Early Voters
CBS/NY Times ^ | October 31, 2004

In many states (including battlegrounds like Florida) in-person early voting began weeks ago. Today one in five voters nationwide say they have already cast their ballot in some way, and still more were planning to do so before Tuesday when interviewed Thursday through Saturday.

13% of likely voters volunteered that they already voted when we asked if they were likely to vote this year; the remainder told us that they had done so when we asked the method by which were voting.

Early voters split about evenly, one-third each between Democrats, Republicans and Independents. They are a bit older: one-quarter are 65 or over, and eight in ten are above age 45. President Bush holds a lead among them.

Why are they exit polling early voters?!!!

Well, it's sort of unavoidable. You do any polling and you'll call tons of people that have already voted.

This completely contradicts what Drudge just said. But I'll take it!

I agree this shouldn't be published by now. I could write a post as long as your arm on how we will look back on the Gore decisions to try to steal the 2000 election as the beginning of the end of our election process. And no I'm not kidding.

And you see, this completely contradicts what we were hearing on Drudge a bit ago.

Just keep your head down and vote.

Ok, good news but the story also says that 76% will vote on election day. We are leading but we cannot let up for 48 more hours. Not until the Polls close in Hawaii Tuesday Night/Wedsday morning or Kerry concedes.

Yep, me too.

I am afraid its time for a few modifications to the 1st Amendment as it relates to the press and their activities during elections.

>>I hate Drudge.<<

I'm no fan of his, either, but on another thread there was all sorts of frettin' based on an exit poll of early voters in FLA (Drudge carried the story).

thought the DNC clown Terry McAuliffe said the early votes were going to kerry by a 2 to 1 margin. he said the same thing in 02 and we know how that turned out.

I sure hope the media is telling the truth, which of course would be a stretch.

I heard that too. Again proves my point that the polls suck.

I think Drudge screwed up, because the only 51-43 number I see from the USATODAY gallup poll is this part about Florida

"...According to the USA TODAY poll, it already has: Of 1,300 registered voters in the poll, 30% said they had already cast their ballots.

Lars Hafner, a Democrat who represented St. Petersburg in the state Legislature, thinks that may be an important factor behind Kerry's showing. Bush had a 51%-43% lead last week."

They are just polling people, and of those who say they voted early, asked who they voted for.

These aren't actual results.
