Search of Commercial trucks coming into Tennessee at TN/KY line.

Reports are coming in that Tennessee and Kentucky State Troopers, Nation Guard troops, and other federal alphabet agencies are conducting a "routine training excercise" by stappong and inspecting ALL commercial trucks entering Tennessee at at the TN/KY border on I-65.

The trucks are being stopped and searched both visually and with bomb sniffing dogs.

Rountine? Nothing routine about it as this is the first time I remember anything like it.

Strange, they usually pull that crap when I'm travelling out of the area. I've been stopped 3 times for speeding on 65. Those TN troopers suck.

I live 25 minutes from the TN/KY state line. Never heard of anything like this. Could you give any more details?

Sounds like a lot of truckers to stop for a "training exercise".

Possibly related to election-day terror threats?

Hmmmm..

Hey, it's just me, but SHOULD WE BE COMMENTING ON THIS?

Some years ago, I am embarrassed to say, I was involved in a "jamming" incident on the web. Pre-911, word was that those nasty Clinton-era FBI/CIA people had some kind of HUGE computer and were monitoring ALL emails for words like "assassin" and "bomb". Back then, we thought it was great fun against the Clintons to, on a selected day, pepper our email with a 120-plus list of those "sensitive" words, with the idea we were giving The Bent One some kind of payback.

It is 2004, and is a different world now. Were we, back thin in our innocence, helping provide cover for some Al Queda exercise? You got me. But some things shouldn't be posted to this board until weeks after the brave boys and girls in our defense systems have completed their work, innocents are no longer at risk, and the perps have been shipped to Gitmo.

Nothing routine about this.

If they do this right, then security teams will be stationed in unmarked vehicles up to 25 miles upstream of the Scale House for any vehicles that turn off due to being warned by CB radio. Radio & vehicle traffic should be watched in Williamsburg, TN.

I used to dodge permanent and roving scales.

Most likely these cops are looking for property they can seize for personal use.

They do it here all the time. In Valousa county Fl. they have a full time staff of cops that do nothing but pull people over on the interstate and take their cash.

Corrupt filth.

I have an idea!

It should be illegal for an armed agent of the state to detain someone by force against their will, or search them, unless there is evidence linking them to a crime. And if they want to search someone, they have to get a warrant from a judge.

Maybe I'll call it "The Fourth Amendment"...

Anyone know any free countries that would be interested?

I used to know of one, but FDR destroyed it.

Illegal?

A commerical vehicle is any over 10,000lbs VGW or vehicle gross weight. These vehicles are subject to regulation by the Dept. of Transportation and operate effectively under the Interstate Commerce clause of the US Constitution.
(Some regs vary by state.)

The larger trucks, semis, with a VGW at 20,000 come under even more strict regulations and are subject to weighing, the scale house mentioned elesewhere, DOT hazmat regulations and Fed Hwy regulations.

These also entail multi state vehicle registration, reciprocity of fuel tax collection among the states etc.
