Father John Corapi gave a talk "Wake Up, America!" on cable network EWTN which will be replayed on EWTN in North America on 10/27/2004, at 3:00 AM, EST, and again on Friday, 11:00 PM EST. This is a very fiery pro-life speech discussing the upcoming presidential election and politicians. He even refers at one point to "Senator Catholic", and why it is wrong to vote for such people, and also discusses the obligations of Catholic Bishops and Priests regarding Catholic politicians like Kerry who promote abortions.
He delivers this speach in a fiery way, like the Old Testament prophets must have done to various kings in Israel and to the children of Israel. Believe me, he boldly pulls no punches.
Too bad the Vatican adopts the stance of its beloved United Nations (today Rome has published another stupid document condemning "pre-emptive war" without UN consent):
UN = talk tough; do nothing
Vatican = talk tough; do nothing
Great first post and Welcome to Free Republic
Fr. Corapi is awesome. He's aired in Fresno every morning at 10:00 a.m. This brave priest truly loves the Lord, and isn't politically correct. He is a true Catholic.
I love his promo to his show, it goes something like this:
In the end,(pause) forever, (pause) you and I will be in Heaven OR Hell. (Or something like that). Everytime I hear it, I just shudder.
Great first post. Welcome to Free Republic!
I'm sorry, let me correct that, every Monday morning.
Hi and welcome to FR. A fine first post indeed.
Do you happen to know the radio schedule for this program? I don't have cable but often listen to EWTN on radio, where they rebroadcast some, perhaps most or all, of their tv shows. Many are quite interesting.
Catholics are a huge voting block, if they can be called a block. Don't they comprise about 22 percent of eligible voters? I hope they listen to their anti-abortion warriors and turn out in large numbers for Bush. But who knows. For many, it would be the first time they ever voted Republican.
Have you seen our weeklong prayer vigil thread? Beginning tomorrow, the 27th, we're praying 24/7 for Bush.
Pro-life bump.
Thanks for the post! Good to hear a catholic with balls speak up! reminds me of my SJ professors who talked passionately about Libertation theology... Catholics (and pro-lifers) will be a force in this election! I've seen activism (short of endorsing a specific candidate) in our churches which I have not seen before in past elections...I'm truly encouraged.
Isn't it great that we have EWTN and that some priests and bishops have found their voice? What a wonderful sound!
Fr. John Corapi is the real deal, a man possessing a rare charism in our uncertain times.
He also shares often with Catholics the secret shortcut to heaven and I have always admired him for that.
Thank you for the heads up!!
Do you really think that the "Vatican" should be in the position of endorsing war? I would be more than a little troubled if the Church engaged in sabre rattling because it should always prefer alternatives to war. That is the role of the Church in the modern age. The Church has actually been quite at odds with "its beloved United Nations" especially with regard to population control and even with the war in Iraq. It has recently asked that countries aid the United States in stabilizing Iraq even though it disagreed with the initial war effort. More than one effort has been made to kick the Vatican entirely out of the UN, even preventing it from sending an observer. The Catholic Church may see potential in the UN. Indeed, the UN used to be pro-life and anti-Socialist.
Three cheers for Father Corapi and EWTN!
AS we've come to expect, the majority of Church leaders in the US have gone AWOL.
No Catholic should vote for Kerry.
I was going to go to bed early tonight but I guess I'll have to stay up now. Thanks for the heads up.
Endorsing war? No.
But dumping all over the United States? Hell, no!
The predecessors of the current Vaticanisti (I mean Cardinals Martino, Tauran, Hmao - and, to a certain extent, Sodano) were damn happy to see American GIs like my Dad marching up the Via della Conciliazione the day WE - not the Italians, not the Swiss Guards - WE liberated Rome.
And then my father's generation came home to enter the seminaries and marry the Catholic girls and build families and parishes and schools (the same parishes and schools that are now closing down) and to send American money - LOTS and LOTS of American money - to Rome for the Holy Father's charities.
Last year, Cardinal Hmao - a Japanese - had the unmitigated hypocritical gall to announce a Vatican sponsored "peace conference" to be held the weekend of August 6. The choice of date, he helpfully explained, was determined by the anniversary of the date on which WMD had been used against Hiroshima - by the US of course.
I emailed His Eminence suggesting that the date be changed to December 7, as I said in my email, "the day Your Eminence's cowardly country launched its sneak attack on our forces at Pearl Harbor. My father was liberating Europe between 1942-45, Your Eminence - what was YOUR father doing?????" Gee, no response.
The famous Tariq Azziz-Pope John Paul meeting just before the Iraq War, by the way, another anti-USA photo-op for one of Saddam's bloodiest henchmen was set up by one Father Jean-Marie Benjamin, a former UN Special Events director, who left the UN in 1988 and was ordained in 1991 and immediately began traveling as a confidant and protege with Cardinal Casaroli (then Secretary of State). This past year he produced a popular anti-George Bush CD in Europe and a documentary on Iraqi suffering (because of the US backed sanctions). The Duelfer Report names him as one of the many recipients of oil from Saddam Hussein - bribery essentially - 4.5 million barrels of oil to be exact.
No, I don't expect the Vatican to endorse war - but I sure as hell expect it not to sell its soul to the enemies of freedom and justice just for the sake of courting favor with Europeans or with that great peaceful religion that is currently killing our servicemen and women and beheading innocent civilians in Iraq.
By the way, that sound you didn't hear for 20 years from the Vatican that is so quick to criticize the USA was the Vatican's deafening silence in the face of Saddam Hussein's human rights abuses.
If you can, please watch this. I have met Father twice and was in awe. His bishop has declared that Father has the Apostolic Charism of Preaching. I say that his voice and presence sounds like what I imagine John the Baptist or St. Paul must have sounded like. The heart AND VOICE of a LION!
EWTN streams live if you don't get it on TV. Top of page Multimedia then TV LIVE.
