(CNSNews.com) - The Ohio Republican Party officially filed challenges Friday to approximately 35,000 registrants in 65 counties where voter fraud is believed to have taken place.
The state's Republican Party is pre-challenging these registrants' right to vote in the 2004 presidential election because mail to the new registrants was returned as undeliverable by U.S. Postal Service authorities.
"Our goal in filing these pre-election challenges is to protect the integrity of Ohio's electoral process," said Bob Bennett, chairman of the Ohio Republican Party. "We want to ensure that voters are not disenfranchised by fraud in this election. This is an effort to clarify questionable registrations in advance so they don't become an issue on Election Day."
Earlier in the week, Bennett was joined by Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie at a news conference where he showed thousands of pieces of undeliverable mail to newly registered voters. Concern was raised when the rate of return was at an unprecedented higher rate than in the past.
At the previous news conference, Bennett cited that the normal rate of return on new registrations in less than 1 percent. However, this year the rate of return has ranged from 2 percent to 11 percent in Ohio counties.
Bennett also called on the Democratic Party to help in ensuring a fair and honest election this November, instead of making outrageous claims that the Republican Party is trying to suppress voters.

Driver's licenses have photos on them, and
driver's licenses are given to illegal aliens these days,
aren't they? .....just to finish the thought.
That may be how/why a national ID card happens.
Seems if we're willing to die to protect our voting rights, hell we're even willing to die to help other countries creat a voting process,... why wouldn't we protect our own voting process???

Despite opposition here on FR, I still maintain the best way to deter fraud is to have each state issue an encrypted official voter card to each legitimate voter (after extensive checks) either every year or every two years.
That voter card would be used to vote in Primary and General elections.
And to prevent persistant (Dems) who try and game the system, the cards should use the latest technology and should be issued every two years to prevent dead people from voting.
good point. but you still have to register, that can be easily found out at that time, and if you're here illegally, then you shouldn't be registered in the first place.

counties are registering as many as 300,000 more people
than live there? :-/
Your mother sounds like quite a woman! I wish I could figure out what the Dems have against older people... because they sure like to scare them in one way or another.
Unfortunately, so many older people are inclined to vote out of traditional loyalties. My grandma is a saintly old lady... she's Baptist, opposes abortion, never has a bad word to say against anyone... and she will most likely vote Democrat. She has nothing against President Bush or anything- she even commented once that she doesn't see how everyone is saying the economy is so bad when there is building going on around her everywhere. But she'll vote Democrat on November 2nd... she always voted Democrat all her life.
It's quite depressing, really.
Do you or your employer currently pay Social Security tax? Or federal income tax? It's the same federal govt currently with a national database running those systems (very wastefully and poorly, of course). To me voter fraud is at least as important as getting one's Social Security check. EIther way you could end up in deep doo doo.
I don't like this early voting either. It allows RATS who are registered in multiple districts to more easily cast multiple votes with out a real mailing address. Fraud will be rampant for the RAT cause. This election could easily be stolen and I won't be surprised if we end up on the short side come election day even if Bush has a 3-4 point lead in the polls now.
i am a stay at home Mom, haven't been in the workforce for 10 years, nor do I expect to be collecting SS in 20 years.
I realize my info is already on many data bases but to have readily available to campaign workers gives me the shivers!
And .. like Gillispie said in FL - the 527's have been doing all the "get out the vote" stuff and saving millions of dollars for the dems.
The dems don't even care if the addresses are good - nor do the 527's - just as long as they get paid for each registration.
