The issue of abortion appears to be breaking heavily in President Bush's favor in this year's election, according to a new Survey USA poll, with pro-life voters rallying to his cause at the same time pro-choice voters appear to be less committed to John Kerry.
The results, dubbed "The Abortion Gap" by the polling house, are based on data gathered from 28 key states, including nearly all the battleground states.
In Arizona, for instance, Bush leads Kerry among pro-life voters by a whopping 50 points, while Kerry leads Bush among pro-choice voters by a slender 14-point margin.
In Nevada, Bush leads among pro-life voters by 54 points, while only trailing Kerry by 15 points among pro-choice voters.
In two out of three of the most important battleground states, Ohio and Pennsylvania, the enthusiasm gap favors Kerry - but only by 2 points, with pro-choicers backing the top Democrat by a margin of 42 percent and pro-lifers favoring Bush by a 40-point gap.
But in all-important Florida, Bush is ahead by a margin of 2 to 1, with a 46 percent lead among pro-lifers vs. Kerry's 23-point pro-choicer lead.
Overall, Bush has a 46 percent lead with pro-lifers, while among pro-choicers Kerry leads Bush by 30 points.
One big difference this year, say analysts, is the new phenomenon known as "security moms," who are now more concerned about terrorism and safety than issues like abortion.
That could explain why pro-choicers are significantly less committed to the Democratic standard-bearer than they would have been before the 9/11 attacks.
If pro-life voters remain strongly behind Bush, the Abortion Gap could make all the difference on Nov. 2.
The sensibility gap has beat the "abortion gap" to the punch and abortion will be part of the sensibility in Dubya's second term.

John Kerry-10/13/04 (Presidential Debate): I will defend the right of Roe v. Wade.
4/23/04: Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass speaks in support of baby murder aka abortion at national rally in Washington, D.C. Kerry is flanked by Kate Michelman, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, left and Gloria Feldt, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, right. Feldt also lavishly praised Kerry at the Democratic National Convention.
Kerry on abortion-10/7/04: You know, it's just not that simple.
G.K. Chesterton: Moral issues are always terribly complex, for someone without principles.
Kerry on abortion-10/7/04 But I can't take what is an article of faith for me and legislate it
Being against killing unborn children-abortion is not an article of faith, it is being humane and civilized. It is a scientific fact not an an article of faith that human life begins at conceptionnot birth.
Birth is one day in the life of a person who is already nine months old.
Abortion is murder.
Thanks for the ping
Can you put me on your ping list.
Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure many here would be disappointed in my soft stance. But I unapologetically oppose partial-birth abortion, and I think this is just one more case where the hard-line positions of the Democrats in favor of their interest groups can be and should be exploited politically.
This serves Catholic Kerry right.
This article doesn't even mention all the children of DemocRATS who were aborted years ago. They are not available now to vote for Kerry.
Catholic Ping - let me know if you want on/off this list
Bless you!!

Seems that killing babies is getting to be a harder and harder sell.
Both abortion and the gay marriage issue will be the feul to victory. I think gay marriage vote will give Bush a victory in Michigan.
I would like to see one about the gay marriage gap. I think Bush has that one in the bag too.
From a purely objective point of view, if Bush announced a major policy speach, and at that speach declared that he'd also be calling for an amendment to end abortion in the US, excepting cases for rape and incest, he'd win the election. Don't flame me for excluding rape/incest, I'm simply showing the strategy that he'd need to win.
